Consultant – Medical Coder (E&M with MIPS)

About the Role :
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Coding Consultant specializing in Evaluation & Management (E&M) coding and MIPS (Merit-based Incentive Payment System). This is an individual contributor role, requiring strong analytical skills, accuracy, and in-depth knowledge of coding guidelines and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate coding for E&M services across multiple specialties based on documentation.
- Ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Apply MIPS quality measures and ensure proper documentation alignment for reporting.
- Review clinical documentation and provide feedback to providers to improve coding accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct coding audits and identify areas of improvement or risk.
- Stay updated with changes in coding regulations, payer guidelines, and MIPS requirements.
- Maintain productivity and quality benchmarks as defined by the organization.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (QA, compliance, and providers) when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Certified coder credentials such as CPC / CCS / COC.
- Strong expertise in E&M coding guidelines (2021 & updated AMA rules).
- Hands-on experience with MIPS reporting and quality measures.
- Good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Ability to work independently as an individual contributor.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in coding tools, EHR systems, and MS Excel.
