Job Title: Rotogravure Printing Assistant Operator
Department: Production – Rotogravure Printing
Reports To: Rotogravure Printing Machine Operator / Printing Supervisor
Experience: 2–5 Years in Rotogravure Printing (Flexible Packaging Industry)
Qualification: ITI / Diploma / 10th or 12th Pass (Preferred)
Job Purpose
To assist the Rotogravure Printing Machine Operator in setting up, operating, and maintaining rotogravure printing machines to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality printing of flexible packaging materials while minimizing machine downtime, material wastage, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Rotogravure Printing Operator during machine setup, job changeover, and production startup.
- Load and unload BOPP, PET, PE, CPP, Metalized Film, Paper, and other flexible packaging substrates.
- Prepare inks, solvents (Ethyl Acetate, IPA, etc.), additives, and other consumables as per production requirements.
- Assist in mounting gravure cylinders, doctor blades, impression rollers, and other machine components.
- Verify cylinder numbers, artwork, repeat length, and job specifications before production.
- Monitor print quality including colour registration, shade variation, print density, ink adhesion, print defects, and web alignment.
- Assist in maintaining proper ink viscosity using viscosity cups and replenish inks during production.
- Monitor web tension, drying temperature, oven performance, and machine speed as instructed by the Operator.
- Remove finished printed rolls and ensure proper identification, labeling, and storage.
- Support production targets by minimizing machine downtime, setup time, and material wastage.
- Clean gravure cylinders, doctor blades, ink pans, pumps, ink circulation systems, and surrounding work areas after production.
- Follow production schedules, job cards, SOPs, and Work Instructions accurately.
- Report machine abnormalities, quality issues, cylinder damage, or safety concerns immediately to the Operator or Supervisor.
- Maintain production records and assist during shift handover.
- Coordinate with Quality Control, Maintenance, Lamination, Slitting, Stores, and Planning departments for smooth workflow.
Quality Responsibilities
- Ensure printed material meets approved customer specifications and internal quality standards.
- Perform visual inspection for:
- Colour consistency
- Print registration
- Shade variation
- Pinholes
- Smudging
- Streaking
- Missing print
- Dot gain
- Ghosting
- Misalignment
- Ink adhesion
- Scumming
- Cylinder lines and other print defects
- Segregate non-conforming material and immediately report to the Operator or Quality Department.
- Follow Quality Management System (QMS), SOPs, Work Instructions, and GMP requirements.
- Maintain proper batch traceability and production documentation.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety rules and mandatory PPE requirements.
- Handle inks, solvents, chemicals, and cleaning agents safely as per MSDS guidelines.
- Follow fire safety procedures while handling flammable solvents.
- Maintain housekeeping according to 5S standards.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and equipment hazards immediately.
- Participate in safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.
- Ensure proper disposal of waste inks, solvents, contaminated cloths, and hazardous waste.
Skills Required
- Basic knowledge of Rotogravure Printing Process.
- Knowledge of gravure cylinders, doctor blade systems, ink circulation, and solvent-based printing.
- Understanding of flexible packaging materials such as BOPP, PET, PE, CPP, Metalized Film, Paper, and Foil.
- Basic knowledge of ink viscosity, colour matching, print registration, and web handling.
- Ability to identify common rotogravure printing defects.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in rotating shifts.
- Physically fit to handle production rolls and shop floor activities.

Preferred Industry Experience
Candidates with 2–5 years of experience in Rotogravure Printing within the Flexible Packaging Industry will be preferred. Experience on Bobst, Comexi, Uteco, Pelican, Cerutti, Rotomec, or similar Rotogravure Printing Machines will be an added advantage. This version is suitable for companies like Balaji Multiflex Pvt.
