The OT Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, administration, and efficient functioning of the Operation Theatre complex. The role ensures safe and high-quality patient care, effective utilization of OT resources, compliance with infection-control and hospital policies, and smooth coordination among surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, technicians, and support departments.
Key Responsibilities1. OT Operations & Scheduling
- Plan and coordinate daily and elective OT schedules.
- Ensure timely preparation of operating rooms, instruments, equipment, and consumables.
- Coordinate emergency and priority surgeries.
- Optimize OT utilization, turnover time, and staff allocation.
- Monitor delays, cancellations, and OT performance.
2. Staff Management
- Supervise OT nurses, technicians, attendants, and support staff.
- Prepare duty rosters and ensure adequate staffing.
- Conduct staff orientation, training, and competency assessments.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, performance, and productivity.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication within the OT.
3. Patient Safety & Quality
- Ensure compliance with patient identification, surgical safety checklists, and time-out procedures.
- Maintain standards for pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care.
- Monitor and report incidents, near misses, surgical-site infections, and other quality indicators.
- Participate in quality improvement and accreditation activities such as NABH.
4. Infection Prevention & Sterilization
- Ensure strict adherence to infection-control protocols.
- Monitor cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and aseptic practices.
- Coordinate with CSSD for timely availability of sterile instruments and supplies.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.
- Conduct regular audits of OT infection-control practices.
5. Equipment & Inventory Management
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of OT equipment and surgical instruments.
- Monitor inventory of medicines, implants, consumables, and emergency supplies.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimize wastage and expiry.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs.
- Maintain equipment and inventory records.
6. Coordination
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthetists, nursing teams, CSSD, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, housekeeping, biomedical engineering, and administration.
- Resolve operational issues and escalate critical concerns promptly.
- Facilitate smooth patient movement between wards, OT, PACU/ICU, and other departments.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain OT records, registers, checklists, and operational reports.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly OT performance reports.
- Track KPIs such as OT utilization, turnover time, cancellations, delays, and infection rates.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and statutory requirements.

Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM / BPT / relevant healthcare qualification; postgraduate qualification in Hospital Administration or Healthcare Management is preferred.
- Valid professional registration where applicable.
- Certification/training in infection control, patient safety, or healthcare quality management is desirable.
Experience
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in Operation Theatre management, preferably in a multispecialty hospital.
- Previous supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.
