• Enterprise Architecture is an organization at American Express. The four pillars of
Enterprise Architecture include:
• Architecture as Code: this pillar owns and operates foundational technologies that are
leveraged by engineering teams across the enterprise.
• Architecture as Design: this pillar includes the solution and technical design for
transformation programs and business critical projects which need architectural
guidance and support.
• Governance: this pillar is responsible for defining technical standards and developing
innovative tools that automate controls to ensure compliance.
• Colleague Enablement: this pillar is focused on colleague development, recognition,
training, and enterprise outreach.
Minimum Qualifications::
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of progressive software experience demonstrating strong architecture, programming, and engineering skills
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with React
• Expertise in core frontend technologies – HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Experience building well-architected RESTful APIs
• Demonstrated ability to lead, partner, and collaborate cross functionally across many engineering teams
Desired Skills & Experience
We’re looking for an engineer with a broad skillset, who has a passion for learning new technologies and building rapid proof of concepts. The ideal candidate would have experience with many of these technologies:
• 7+ years of proven Software development in one or more of the programming languages
- Java, Go, Python. • Experience building backend APIs with JavaScript/Typescript
• Experience working in Agile tools like JIRA, Confluence, Git, GitHub Actions, CI/CD.
• Experience in leveraging AI/ML/Gen-AI based components in architectural solutions, with hands-on experience.
• Preferred experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI), LLMs, Gen-AI and Agentic AI usage
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, Data Analytics/Big Data platform development using BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc .
• Enthusiasm for building secure, scalable, performant, and reliable enterprise applications
• Hands on experience with a relational database, with comfort with large schema design
• Knowledge of large scale distributed NoSQL databases
• Knowledge of OpenTelemetry / OpenTracing
• Experience building and deploying on a major cloud provided (AWS, GCP)
• Knowledge of API Gateways and/or Service Mesh integration patterns
• Knowledge and/or experience with containerized environments, Kubernetes, Docker
• Open-source community involvement
