An Inpatient (IP) Coordinator acts as the central point of contact for hospital patients, managing admissions, discharges, and daily care coordination. They ensure smooth patient flow, assist with bed management, communicate with medical staff, and handle documentation, including billing and insurance coordination. [1, 2]Key Responsibilities
- Admission & Discharge: Manage the full cycle of patient admission, bed allocation, and the discharge process.
- Patient Support & Communication: Act as a liaison between patients, families, doctors, and nurses to address concerns and provide information.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate patient records, prepare daily reports, and handle insurance/billing documentation.
- Operations & Quality Control: Coordinate with housekeeping/maintenance for room readiness, monitor patient status, and gather patient feedback.
- Compliance: Ensure operations follow hospital policies and regulatory guidelines. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to handle patient concerns with empathy.
- Organizational: Ability to multitask and handle high-energy environments.
- Technical: Familiarity with Hospital Management Systems (HMS).
