We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Finance Manager who can bring structure, discipline and financial control to the organization and work closely with the MD/Management.
Job Description
This is not merely an accounting or bookkeeping role.
We are looking for a Finance Manager who can understand the complete financial position of the business, control cash flow, improve fund utilization, manage working capital, monitor debt and bank facilities, control costs, improve financial planning and provide management with clear information for decision-making.
The candidate should be capable of identifying where money is being spent, where cash is getting blocked, why cash-flow gaps occur and what corrective actions are required.
The Finance Manager will be expected to take ownership of the company's financial planning and controls and work closely with management and different departments to improve financial discipline and business efficiency.
Key Responsibilities1. Cash Flow & Fund Management
- Take ownership of the company's day-to-day cash-flow planning and monitoring.
- Prepare and maintain daily, weekly and monthly cash-flow forecasts.
- Monitor expected collections, payments, expenses and available cash.
- Plan fund requirements in advance and identify potential cash shortages before they occur.
- Ensure funds are allocated appropriately based on business priorities.
- Monitor movement of funds between bank accounts and business activities.
- Identify unnecessary cash leakage, delays and inefficient utilization of funds.
- Provide management with a clear view of current and future cash requirements.
- Investigate recurring cash-flow gaps and recommend corrective actions.
2. Working Capital Management
- Monitor the company's working capital position closely.
- Control and improve receivables, payables and inventory.
- Monitor customer/dealer outstanding amounts and collection timelines.
- Develop and monitor collection plans.
- Identify overdue receivables and escalate critical cases to management.
- Monitor supplier payments and negotiate payment priorities where appropriate.
- Analyze inventory levels and identify slow-moving, excess or blocked stock.
- Work with Sales, Purchase and Operations to improve working-capital efficiency.
- Reduce the amount of company funds unnecessarily locked in stock and receivables.
3. Bank, OD & Debt Management
- Monitor all bank accounts, OD facilities, loans and other financial liabilities.
- Maintain a clear picture of available limits, utilization, interest costs and repayment obligations.
- Optimize the use of bank OD and other credit facilities.
- Monitor interest costs and identify opportunities to reduce financing costs.
- Plan repayments and fund utilization based on cash-flow requirements.
- Coordinate with banks and financial institutions when required.
- Provide management with regular reports on debt and bank exposure.
- Develop strategies to gradually reduce unnecessary dependence on OD and external funding.
4. Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Prepare annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.
- Develop departmental budgets in coordination with management.
- Track budget vs. actual performance.
- Identify significant variations and investigate the reasons.
- Prepare monthly financial forecasts based on actual business performance.
- Support management in financial planning and business expansion decisions.
- Evaluate the financial impact of major purchases, investments, projects and business decisions.
- Provide management with financial scenarios and recommendations before major commitments.
5. Cost Control & Cost Reduction
- Review company expenses and identify unnecessary or avoidable costs.
- Analyze expenses department-wise and category-wise.
- Identify areas of cost leakage and recommend corrective measures.
- Establish appropriate approval and control mechanisms for expenses.
- Monitor recurring expenses and negotiate better commercial terms where possible.
- Work with management and departments to improve cost efficiency.
- Develop systems to ensure spending is aligned with business priorities.
6. Financial MIS & Management Reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for the MD/Management.
- Develop management dashboards covering:
- Cash flow
- Receivables
- Payables
- Stock
- Sales
- Gross margin
- Expenses
- OD/debt
- Working capital
- Budget vs. actual
- Provide clear financial analysis rather than simply submitting numbers.
- Highlight critical financial issues requiring management attention.
- Provide actionable recommendations based on financial data.
- Establish regular financial reporting systems for management review.
7. Profitability & Business Analysis
- Analyze profitability by product, customer, dealer, project and/or business segment where data is available.
- Monitor gross margins and identify margin leakage.
- Analyze the relationship between sales, margins, collections and cash flow.
- Identify businesses/customers/products that generate revenue but negatively impact cash flow or profitability.
- Support management in pricing and commercial decisions.
- Evaluate the financial viability of major business opportunities.
8. Financial Controls & Internal Systems
- Establish strong financial controls across the organization.
- Review existing financial processes and identify weaknesses.
- Introduce proper approval systems for purchases, expenses, payments and credit.
- Ensure proper documentation for financial transactions.
- Establish segregation of responsibilities wherever practical.
- Monitor unauthorized or unnecessary expenses.
- Reduce dependency on individual employees for critical financial processes.
- Develop standardized financial procedures and checklists.
- Ensure important financial information is properly documented and accessible to management.
9. Accounts & Statutory Coordination
- Supervise day-to-day accounting activities and ensure books are maintained accurately and on time.
- Review bank reconciliation, receivables, payables and ledger balances.
- Ensure proper accounting documentation and supporting records.
- Coordinate with auditors, tax consultants and external financial professionals.
- Monitor compliance related to GST, TDS and other applicable financial/statutory requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of required financial information to consultants and auditors.
- Review financial statements and identify unusual or incorrect entries.
10. Purchase, Inventory & Financial Control
- Work closely with Purchase and Operations to control procurement and inventory costs.
- Monitor purchase commitments against available cash and business requirements.
- Review inventory valuation and stock movement.
- Identify slow-moving and excess inventory.
- Monitor stock-related cash blockage.
- Support management in developing appropriate purchasing and inventory policies.
- Ensure purchases are supported by proper approvals and documentation.
11. Credit Control & Collection Management
- Develop appropriate customer/dealer credit controls in consultation with management.
- Monitor credit limits, payment terms and outstanding balances.
- Track overdue accounts and ensure timely follow-up.
- Coordinate with Sales regarding collection responsibilities.
- Ensure sales growth does not result in uncontrolled receivables.
- Provide management with regular ageing and collection reports.
- Recommend corrective action for high-risk or consistently overdue customers.
12. Departmental Financial Accountability
- Work with Sales, Purchase, Operations, HR and other departments to improve financial discipline.
- Help departments understand the financial impact of their decisions.
- Establish measurable financial controls and responsibilities.
- Monitor whether departmental spending is within approved budgets.
- Identify operational practices that create unnecessary financial costs.
- Provide management with data to hold departments accountable for financial performance.
13. Process, SOP & System Development
- Identify financial and operational processes that are currently dependent on individuals.
- Develop standardized procedures, approval workflows, checklists and documentation systems.
- Reduce the risk of work being disrupted when an employee leaves.
- Ensure critical financial processes are properly documented.
- Improve coordination between Finance, Sales, Purchase, Operations and Management.
- Introduce systems that provide management with timely and reliable financial information.
Management Advisory & Strategic Contribution
The Finance Manager is expected to be more than a person who reports financial numbers.
The ideal candidate should be able to tell management:

The candidate should have strong ownership, analytical thinking and problem-solving ability and should be comfortable raising financial concerns with management when necessary.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or related field.
- CA Inter / CMA / MBA Finance or equivalent qualification will be an advantage.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Finance & Accounts, preferably with experience handling finance independently in an SME or growing business.
- Strong practical experience in cash-flow management and working-capital management.
- Strong understanding of bank OD, loans, credit facilities and debt management.
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
- Good knowledge of receivables, payables and inventory management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in financial MIS and management reporting.
- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting/ERP software.
- Good understanding of GST, TDS and other applicable statutory financial requirements.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality and financial discipline.

Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in:

Experience in a business where the candidate has directly handled cash flow, working capital, banking, budgeting, cost control and management reporting will be highly preferred.
