JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The Senior Firmware Engineer leads the design, development, integration, optimization, and verification of complex firmware systems supporting audio processing, wireless streaming, and sensor-based technologies.
This role serves as a technical leader within project teams, collaborating closely with Algorithm Research, Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and Verification teams to translate advanced signal processing concepts into robust commercial products.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS
- Technical Leadership and System Design
- Lead the development of firmware architectures and technical solutions for complex embedded systems
- Translate system requirements into scalable and maintainable firmware designs
- Drive technical decision-making and perform tradeoff analysis for performance, memory, power, and reliability optimization
- Review and approve firmware designs, code implementations, and technical documentation
- Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex firmware and system integration issues
- Advanced Firmware Development
- Lead the development and optimization of embedded firmware for complex real-time systems and signal processing applications.
- Collaborate closely with the Algorithm Research team to evaluate, integrate, optimize, and deploy advanced DSP and machine learning algorithms into embedded firmware platforms.
- Translate research algorithms and proof-of-concept models into efficient, production-ready embedded implementations while balancing performance, memory, latency, and power constraints.
- Drive firmware architecture and implementation strategies that support scalable integration of next-generation signal processing and AI-based features.
- Develop high-quality firmware using advanced programming, debugging, and performance optimization techniques.
- Optimize DSP algorithms and embedded implementations for real-time applications on resource-constrained hardware platforms.
- Support algorithm validation, tuning, and performance characterization through simulation, profiling, and system-level analysis.
- Lead firmware integration activities across hardware, systems engineering, algorithm research, and verification teams.
- Ensure compliance with coding standards, firmware quality practices, and established development processes.
- Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex firmware, integration, and system performance issues.
- Drive continuous improvement in firmware development methodologies, tooling, automation, and technical best practices.
- Verification and Quality Ownership
- Define firmware verification strategies and contribute to system validation planning.
- Ensure firmware quality through robust testing methodologies and automation strategies.
- Collaborate with verification teams to resolve system-level defects and performance issues.
- Drive continuous improvement in firmware quality and development efficiency.
- Project and Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead technical execution for firmware projects and major feature developments.
- Provide project estimates, technical risk assessments, and resource planning support.
- Coordinate technical activities across R&D, systems engineering, hardware, and quality teams.
- Communicate project status, technical risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership.
- Mentorship and Process Improvement
- Mentor and coach engineers across the firmware organization.
- Develop technical training materials, best practices, and reusable frameworks.
- Identify gaps in engineering processes and lead process improvement initiatives.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical Engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related field
Domain Expertise
- Strong knowledge of signal processing systems
- Experience with audio signal processing algorithms such as:
- Noise reduction
- Feedback cancellation
- Beamforming
- Dynamic range compression
- Speech enhancement
- Experience supporting wireless audio streaming technologies
- Understanding of sensor signal processing and sensor fusion techniques
- Experience collaborating with algorithm development and research teams
Technical Skills
- Deep expertise in embedded firmware architecture and development
- Strong knowledge of DSP concepts, real-time processing, and optimization techniques
- Experience implementing DSP algorithms on embedded processors such as ARM, TI DSPs, or FPGA-based systems
- Strong experience with RTOS environments and low-level hardware/software integration
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or related tools
- Experience with firmware verification frameworks and automated testing methodologies
- Strong understanding of wireless and wired communication protocols
- Experience leading complex debugging and system integration efforts
