Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Fabrication Supervisor to oversee daily operations of our heavy fabrication section, including cutting, bending, fit-up, welding, and assembly. The ideal candidate will manage shop floor activities, ensure dimensional accuracy and weld quality, coordinate manpower, and ensure jobs are completed on schedule and to specification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily fabrication activities — cutting, bending, fit-up, welding, and assembly — to meet production schedules
- Review engineering drawings, GA drawings, and job specifications to plan fabrication sequence and resource allocation
- Ensure dimensional accuracy, alignment, and squareness of fabricated components as per drawing tolerances
- Monitor welding quality (fit-up, weld size, distortion control) and coordinate with QC for inspection at each stage
- Allocate work to fitters, welders, and helpers; monitor productivity and manpower utilization
- Ensure adherence to safety standards during cutting, lifting, welding, and material handling operations
- Maintain production records, daily progress reports, and documentation for traceability
- Coordinate with cutting, bending, machining, blasting, and painting sections for smooth workflow and timely handover
- Coordinate with planning and dispatch teams to ensure on-time delivery of fabricated jobs
- Train and guide fitters/welders on best practices, drawing interpretation, and safety procedures
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of fabrication equipment, welding machines, and tools
- Identify areas for process improvement to enhance efficiency, reduce rework, and control costs
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Diploma/ITI/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in heavy steel fabrication, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of reading engineering/GA drawings and welding symbols
- Familiarity with welding processes (SMAW/MIG/CO2), fit-up standards, and fabrication tolerances
- Good understanding of structural steel, plate work, and heavy fabrication practices
- Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality standards preferred
- Basic computer skills (MS Office, production software)
