Golang | Google Cloud Platform | PostgreSQL | CI/CD
Location: Chennai
Experience: Minimum 3+ years
Open positions: 2
Role Summary
We are seeking a Backend & DevOps Engineer to design, develop, deploy and maintain production-ready REST API services in Go and the associated Google Cloud Platform infrastructure. The role combines hands-on backend engineering with CI/CD automation, containerisation, security integration and cloud service operations. The engineer will work within defined architectural standards and will own both application code and infrastructure automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop production-grade REST APIs in Go using gorilla/mux.
- Implement and maintain a three-layer application architecture: Handler to Service to Repository.
- Write, review and optimise raw parameterised SQL for PostgreSQL using database/sql, without ORM dependencies.
- Create and maintain database migrations and version history using Flyway.
- Develop and optimise GCP Cloud Build pipelines for continuous integration and environment deployments.
- Package applications using multi-stage Docker builds with distroless, non-root runtime images.
- Deploy and operate containerised services on GCP Cloud Run and integrate with Cloud SQL.
- Implement inbound Azure AD JWT/JWKS validation and outbound OAuth2 client-credentials flows.
- Manage application secrets and configuration securely through GCP Secret Manager.
- Integrate SonarQube code-quality gates and FOSSA open-source licence compliance checks into CI/CD.
- Develop comprehensive table-driven unit tests using httptest, mockery and go-sqlmock.
- Participate in code reviews, troubleshoot production and pipeline issues, and drive corrective actions through closure.
- Prepare weekly technical status updates covering API delivery, migrations, pipeline health, test coverage, risks and blockers.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong professional experience in Go/Golang backend development; Go 1.25 or later is preferred.
- Hands-on REST API development using gorilla/mux or a comparable Go routing framework.
- Sound understanding of layered architecture and manual dependency injection without DI frameworks.
- Strong PostgreSQL and database/sql experience, including secure parameterised queries and performance optimisation.
- Experience with Flyway or an equivalent database migration tool.
- Practical experience with GCP Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Cloud Build and Secret Manager.
- Strong Docker knowledge, including multi-stage builds, distroless images and non-root execution.
- Experience with Azure AD authentication, JWT/JWKS validation and OAuth2 client credentials.
- Experience integrating automated code-quality, security or licence-compliance gates into delivery pipelines.
- Strong unit-testing skills using Go testing patterns and mocking/database test utilities.
- Working knowledge of Git/GitHub and version-controlled development workflows.
Tool and Technology Stack
- Languages and frameworks: Go 1.25+, gorilla/mux.
- Database: PostgreSQL 17, database/sql and Flyway.
- Cloud: GCP Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Cloud Build and Secret Manager.
- Containers: Docker multi-stage builds and distroless runtime images.
- Identity and security: Azure AD, JWT/JWKS and OAuth2.
- Quality and compliance: SonarQube and FOSSA.
- Testing: Go test, httptest, mockery and go-sqlmock.
- Source control: Git and GitHub.
Behavioural Competencies
- Analytical problem solving: Investigates issues systematically and applies rigorous, evidence-based solutions.
- Architectural discipline and detail: Works within prescribed coding, security and design standards while maintaining reliability, testability and operational readiness.
- Ownership: Takes responsibility for application delivery as well as infrastructure and pipeline automation.
- Communication and collaboration: Provides concise technical updates, escalates blockers early and contributes constructively to reviews and quality gates.
Key Deliverables
- Production-ready Go REST APIs aligned with the prescribed layered architecture.
- Optimised SQL queries and controlled, traceable database migrations.
- Reliable CI/CD pipelines with automated quality and licence-compliance checks.
- Secure, minimal and non-root container images deployed to Cloud Run.
- Authentication, authorisation and secrets-management integrations.
- Automated unit tests and measurable test coverage.
- Technical documentation and timely status reporting.
Additional Expectations
- The position requires ownership across backend development and DevOps automation.
- One engineering workstation and the necessary approved software licences will be required per resource.
- Provisioning or management of compute infrastructure outside GCP is outside the primary role scope.
