Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the company's garage, fleet, and related equipment. The role involves ensuring maximum vehicle availability, timely repairs and servicing, proper deployment of vehicles at different mines/sites, coordination with service centres and local repair vendors, and effective management of spare parts, tyres, tools, diesel, DEF, and maintenance records.
Key Responsibilities1. Garage & Fleet Management
- Overall management and supervision of garage operations.
- Ensure proper maintenance, servicing, and repair of all company vehicles.
- Monitor vehicle availability and minimize breakdown time.
- Plan preventive and breakdown maintenance schedules for the fleet.
- Ensure vehicles are maintained in safe and roadworthy condition.
2. Vehicle Engagement & Movement Monitoring
- Plan and arrange vehicle engagement at different mines/sites as per operational requirements.
- Coordinate with the Operations team for daily vehicle deployment.
- Monitor vehicle movement, availability, utilization, and downtime.
- Maintain proper records of vehicles engaged, idle, under repair, and breakdown vehicles.
3. Service Centre & Repair Coordination
- Coordinate with the Tata Service Centre and other authorized service providers for timely repair and servicing of BD vehicles.
- Follow up on vehicles sent for repair to ensure timely completion and delivery.
- Verify repair work and ensure that the vehicle is properly inspected before being put back into operation.
- Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repair work whenever required.
4. Mechanic & Tyre Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate and supervise mechanics for day-to-day repair and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with tyre mistri/vendors for tyre repair, replacement, rotation, and maintenance.
- Monitor tyre condition and ensure timely action to reduce tyre-related breakdowns.
- Maintain proper records of tyre usage, replacement, repairs, and stock.
5. Spare Parts & Store Management
- Manage the storage and availability of essential spare parts and consumables.
- Maintain proper stock records of spare parts, tools, lubricants, consumables, and other maintenance materials.
- Monitor minimum stock levels and raise requirements for procurement on time.
- Ensure proper storage, issue, and control of spare parts to avoid wastage and pilferage.
- Maintain records of spare parts consumption and usage vehicle-wise wherever applicable.
6. Maintenance Records & Documentation
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for maintaining accurate and updated records, including:
- Vehicle-wise BD (Breakdown) records
- Daily vehicle status and availability
- Shift rosters
- Driver deployment and records
- Diesel consumption records
- DEF consumption records
- Tyre records and tyre history
- Spare parts stock and consumption
- Tools and equipment inventory
- Consumables stock and usage
- Vehicle servicing and maintenance history
- Repair and maintenance expenses
- Vendor/service centre repair records
7. Team & Shift Management
- Prepare and manage shift rosters for maintenance staff, drivers, and other concerned personnel.
- Ensure adequate manpower availability for smooth garage operations.
- Monitor the performance and productivity of mechanics and maintenance staff.
- Ensure discipline, safety, and proper work practices within the garage.
8. Cost Control & Reporting
- Monitor maintenance and repair expenses and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Control unnecessary consumption of spare parts, tyres, diesel, DEF, and consumables.
- Submit regular reports on vehicle availability, breakdowns, repairs, tyre status, and maintenance expenses.
- Highlight recurring technical issues and recommend corrective actions.
9. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out following safety standards.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the garage and workshop area.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle maintenance and garage operations.
- Experience in managing fleet maintenance and vehicle deployment.
- Ability to coordinate with authorized service centres, mechanics, and external vendors.
- Good understanding of vehicle breakdown analysis and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of tyre management and spare parts inventory control.
- Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage maintenance staff and coordinate with operations teams.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel and maintenance reporting.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in managing Tata commercial vehicles / BD vehicles will be preferred.
- Experience in mining, logistics, transportation, fleet operations, or heavy vehicle maintenance will be an advantage.
Educational Qualification
Diploma / ITI / Degree in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering
Relevant practical experience in fleet and garage management may also be considered.
Experience
5–10 years of relevant experience in fleet maintenance, garage management, commercial vehicles, heavy vehicles, mining, logistics, or transportation operations.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
