Role Summary
The Junior Accountant will support the finance function by handling day-to-day bookkeeping, data entry, expense processing, and compliance groundwork. This role works closely with the Senior Accountant and will gain hands-on exposure to EPC project accounting, milestone-based billing, multi-state GST compliance, and the full Zoho finance stack. Ideal for a motivated commerce graduate or CA aspirant looking to build a strong foundation in project-based financial management.
Key Responsibilities
- Record day-to-day financial transactions in Zoho Books including purchase entries, sales invoices, payment vouchers, journal entries, and bank reconciliation.
- Assist in maintaining project-wise cost tracking by coding every invoice and expense entry to the correct project and cost head as per the chart of accounts.
- Process employee travel expense claims in Zoho Expense – verify supporting documents, check policy compliance, and prepare reimbursement batches for approval.
- Maintain vendor and sub-contractor ledgers; track advances issued, work-certified amounts, deductions (TDS, retention, LD), and net payable balances.
- Prepare input data for GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B) and assist in monthly reconciliation of purchase register with GSTR-2A/2B.
- Generate TDS computation worksheets, assist in quarterly TDS return filing (26Q, 24Q), and ensure timely issuance of TDS certificates.
- Prepare debtor and creditor ageing reports, follow up on outstanding receivables, and update collection trackers.
- Support the Senior Accountant in compiling monthly MIS data – extracting trial balances, bank statements, and expense summaries from Zoho.
- Maintain petty cash records and handle physical cash reconciliation for site offices.
- File and organise accounting documents (physical and digital) for audit readiness.
- Assist during statutory and internal audits by preparing schedules, vouching documents, and responding to auditor queries.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- B.Com / M.Com / CA Articleship completed (or pursuing CA Inter / CMA Inter) with 2–3 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Working knowledge of Zoho Books or similar cloud-based accounting software (Tally ERP knowledge also acceptable).
- Basic understanding of GST return filing, TDS provisions, and Indian accounting standards.
- Good command over MS Excel / Google Sheets – VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and basic formula usage.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to handle high transaction volumes.
- Willingness to learn EPC project accounting concepts and grow into a senior accounting role.
Preferred / Good-to-Have
- Prior exposure to project-based or construction industry accounting.
- Familiarity with Zoho Expense for travel reimbursement workflows.
- Experience with bank reconciliation and multi-state GST compliance.
