About the Role:
We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical & Robotics Design Engineering Intern who is passionate about building real-world robotic systems and agricultural automation equipment. This internship is designed for engineering students or fresh graduates who want hands-on exposure to the complete product development lifecycle—from concept generation and engineering calculations to CAD design, prototype development, manufacturing, testing, and field deployment.
You will work directly with senior mechanical and robotics engineers on the development of industrial robotic manipulators, autonomous agricultural machines, end-effectors, transmission systems, and custom mechanical assemblies. Successful interns will have the opportunity to transition into a full-time Design & Product Development Engineer role.
What You Will Do:
- Assist in designing mechanical assemblies and robotic subsystems including structural frames, robotic arms, transmission systems, gearboxes, conveyor mechanisms, end-effectors, and mobile robotic platforms.
- Perform engineering calculations including force analysis, torque estimation, power transmission, stress calculations, shaft sizing, bearing selection, and factor of safety calculations.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, manufacturing drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) using Autodesk Inventor or equivalent parametric CAD software.
- Support prototype fabrication by coordinating with the workshop, reviewing manufactured components, and resolving manufacturing issues.
- Participate in assembly, integration, testing, and debugging of robotic systems and mechanical prototypes.
- Assist in selecting standard machine elements including bearings, shafts, gears, chains, sprockets, motors, couplings, fasteners, and actuators using manufacturer catalogues.
- Document engineering calculations, design iterations, testing observations, and design improvements as part of the product development process.
- Support field testing of agricultural robotic systems and recommend design improvements based on real-world performance.
- Collaborate with electronics, embedded systems, software, and computer vision teams during robotic system integration.
What We Are Looking For:
- Final Year B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech student in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automobile Engineering, Engineering Design, or a related discipline.
- Strong fundamentals in Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, and Machine Design.
- Good understanding of free body diagrams, static and dynamic force analysis, torque calculations, power transmission, and basic structural design.
- Familiarity with machine elements including bearings, gears, shafts, belts, chains, couplings, and fasteners.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, or similar CAD software.
- Basic understanding of engineering drawings, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes.
- Exposure to FEA tools (ANSYS or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Interest in robotics, automation, agricultural machinery, product development, or industrial equipment.
- Strong analytical thinking, willingness to learn, and the ability to solve practical engineering problems.
