Key Qualification Requirements (NMC Norms 2025/2026):
- Essential Qualification: MD/DNB in Emergency Medicine.
- Alternate/Allied PG Qualifications: During transition periods, MD/DNB in General Medicine, Anaesthesia, Respiratory Medicine, General Surgery, or Orthopaedics may be accepted.
- Experience Route 1 (Academic): A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience as an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine in a recognized medical college.
- Experience Route 2 (Specialist/Non-Teaching): A non-teaching Consultant/Specialist/Medical Officer with a postgraduate medical degree and 10 years of cumulative experience in a government hospital with at least 220 beds can directly become an Associate Professor.
- Mandatory Training: Must complete the Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) and Basic Course in Biomedical Research (BCBR) within two years of appointment. High Court of Tripura +4
Important Notes:
- Specialty Experience: The 10-year experience must be in the same broad specialty (Emergency Medicine).
- Non-teaching to Teaching Transition: Specialists with 10 years of experience in government hospitals can directly enter academia at the Associate Professor level without prior mandatory Senior Residency.
- Diploma Holders: Diploma holders working as Specialists/Medical Officers with 6 years of cumulative experience are eligible to enter as Assistant Professors, and with further experience (up to 10+ years), may advance. NMC +3
