Job Summary
The Boring Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating horizontal and vertical boring machines to manufacture precision metal components according to engineering drawings and quality specifications. The role requires maintaining dimensional accuracy, ensuring product quality, following safety standards, and maximizing machine productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal and vertical boring machines for machining components as per engineering drawings and production requirements.
- Set up workpieces, fixtures, cutting tools, boring bars, and machine parameters before machining operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, process sheets, and job specifications.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and depth of cut to achieve the required machining quality.
- Perform boring, drilling, facing, reaming, and related machining operations within specified tolerances.
- Measure finished components using precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and height gauges.
- Inspect machined components to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
- Carry out routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance.
- Report machine malfunctions, tool wear, or abnormal operating conditions to the Production Supervisor or Maintenance Department.
- Maintain proper production records and inspection reports.
- Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, and 5S housekeeping standards.
- Ensure efficient utilization of machines, tools, and materials while minimizing wastage.
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience in operating Horizontal and Vertical Boring Machines (Manual/CNC).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of machining tolerances, cutting tools, and machining parameters.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Educational Qualification
- ITI (Machinist, Turner, Fitter) or equivalent technical qualification.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 5–10 years of experience as a Boring Machine Operator in a machine shop, steel forging, heavy engineering, fabrication, or automobile manufacturing industry.
