Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- MBA or PG Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, or Operations Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 8–15 years of relevant experience in procurement and supply chain management, preferably in the manufacturing, industrial minerals, chemicals, mining, engineering, or process industry.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a managerial or team leadership role.
Job Summary
The Purchase Manager will be responsible for leading the procurement function by developing sourcing strategies, managing vendor relationships, negotiating commercial agreements, and ensuring the timely procurement of quality materials and services. The role focuses on cost optimization, uninterrupted supply, compliance with procurement policies, and supporting business objectives through effective procurement planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the procurement function for raw materials, consumables, spare parts, capital equipment, and services.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business goals.
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and maintain a reliable supplier base.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings and operational efficiency.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials to support uninterrupted production and business operations.
- Monitor inventory levels in coordination with the Stores and Production departments to optimize stock levels.
- Review and approve purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and procurement contracts.
- Develop annual procurement budgets and monitor departmental spending.
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations and implement vendor development initiatives.
- Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Finance, Quality, and Logistics departments for procurement planning and execution.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, statutory requirements, and audit standards.
- Manage import procurement activities, including coordination with logistics, customs, and freight forwarding agencies, where applicable.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and strategic sourcing.
- Prepare procurement reports, MIS, spend analysis, and vendor performance reports for management review.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the procurement team to enhance performance and efficiency.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of procurement, strategic sourcing, and supply chain management.
- Excellent negotiation, contract management, and vendor management skills.
- Experience in procurement planning and inventory management.
- Knowledge of import procurement, international sourcing, and logistics is preferred.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.) and MS Office.
- Strong analytical, financial, and commercial acumen.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial minerals, chemicals, mining, ceramics, or engineering industries.
- Familiarity with procurement of raw materials, packaging materials, engineering spares, and capital equipment.
- Exposure to ISO standards, internal audits, and supply chain optimization initiatives.
