A Dental Assistant supports dentists and dental hygienists in providing patient care, maintaining treatment rooms, preparing instruments, assisting during procedures, and ensuring a clean and safe clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms and dental instruments before patient appointments.
- Assist dentists during examinations, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and other dental procedures.
- Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment according to infection-control standards.
- Take and record patient medical histories and vital information.
- Prepare patients for treatment and explain basic procedures and aftercare instructions.
- Take dental X-rays (where permitted and certified).
- Manage patient records and update treatment information accurately.
- Schedule appointments and handle basic administrative tasks.
- Monitor inventory levels and order dental supplies as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate or diploma in Dental Assisting (preferred or required based on local regulations).
- Knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, and infection-control practices.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with dental practice management software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
