The School Librarian plays a key academic and operational role in developing the school library into a modern Learning Resource Centre (LRC). The librarian supports teaching, learning, research, and reading development aligned with the standards and competencies expected in a Cambridge international learning environment.
The role is central to fostering independent learning, inquiry skills, digital literacy, and reading culture across all year levels.
The librarian will actively support the implementation of the Cambridge Assessment International Education curriculum by ensuring students and teachers have access to high-quality, curriculum-aligned print and digital resources.
2. Key Objectives of the Role
- Develop the library as a hub for inquiry-based learning.
- Support curriculum delivery across Primary, Lower Secondary, IGCSE, and A-Level (as applicable).
- Promote lifelong reading habits and information literacy.
- Ensure equitable access to learning resources for all students and staff.
- Integrate technology and digital resources into learning practices.
3. Detailed Responsibilities
A. Library Resource Management & Development
- Develop and maintain a well-organized, up-to-date library collection.
- Manage cataloguing, classification, indexing, and shelving systems (Dewey Decimal or other international standards).
- Oversee acquisition, selection, and weeding of books and resources based on curriculum relevance and student needs.
- Maintain subscription-based databases, journals, e-books, and digital libraries.
- Conduct regular audits of library stock and ensure accuracy of records.
B. Curriculum Support & Academic Integration
- Collaborate with teachers to identify resource needs for lesson planning and assignments.
- Provide curated reading lists aligned with subject syllabi and Cambridge learner attributes.
- Support research-based learning such as projects, presentations, and extended writing tasks.
- Guide students in academic referencing, citation styles, and avoiding plagiarism.
- Assist in developing inquiry-driven learning activities using library resources.
C. Information & Digital Literacy Development
- Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively.
- Conduct structured library orientation programs for all grade levels.
- Train users in digital research tools, online databases, and e-resources.
- Promote ethical use of information, including copyright awareness and academic honesty.
- Support integration of ICT in learning through library platforms.
D. Reading Promotion & Student Engagement
- Design and implement reading enrichment programs across grade levels.
- Organize events such as:
- Book fairs
- Author visits
- Reading challenges
- Storytelling sessions
- Literary clubs and competitions
- Encourage reading for pleasure and critical thinking.
- Create thematic displays and book exhibitions linked to curriculum themes.
E. Library Operations & Administration
- Supervise daily library operations including circulation, membership, and user services.
- Maintain discipline and ensure a quiet, conducive learning environment.
- Manage library budget planning in coordination with school leadership.
- Prepare periodic reports on library usage, acquisition, and student engagement.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, safety norms, and safeguarding guidelines.
F. Collaboration & Professional Contribution
- Work closely with academic coordinators, subject heads, and teachers.
- Participate in curriculum planning meetings when required.
- Contribute to school-wide literacy and academic development initiatives.
- Support examination-related resource preparation and revision support.
G. Technology Integration
- Manage library management software (LMS).
- Maintain digital catalogues and online search systems.
- Support use of e-learning platforms and digital subscriptions.
- Troubleshoot basic ICT issues related to library systems.
4. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (B.Lib / M.Lib) or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a school library environment (international curriculum preferred).
- Familiarity with CAIE curriculum frameworks is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in library management systems and digital tools.

Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹23,000.00 per month
