Position: ICU Staff Nurse

Job Summary
The ICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The nurse is responsible for continuous patient assessment, administration of medications, operation of critical care equipment, infection prevention, documentation, and coordination with consultants and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients.
- Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and clinical condition.
- Perform accurate nursing assessments and report any deterioration immediately.
- Maintain airway, breathing, circulation, and neurological assessments.
- Assist in emergency resuscitation and Code Blue situations.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and injections as prescribed.
- Ensure safe patient positioning, hygiene, nutrition, and pressure sore prevention.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative intensive care when required.
Clinical Procedures
- Assist doctors during invasive procedures such as:
- Central Venous Catheter insertion
- Arterial Line insertion
- Intubation and Extubation
- Tracheostomy care
- Chest tube insertion
- Lumbar puncture (when applicable)
- Perform suctioning and airway management.
- Collect blood and other specimens as ordered.
Equipment Management
- Operate and monitor:
- Mechanical Ventilators
- Cardiac Monitors
- Defibrillators
- Syringe Pumps
- Infusion Pumps
- ABG Machines (where applicable)
- Oxygen delivery systems
- Ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Report equipment malfunction immediately.
Infection Control
- Follow NABH infection prevention and control guidelines.
- Maintain strict hand hygiene practices.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Adhere to biomedical waste management protocols.
- Follow isolation precautions where applicable.
Documentation
- Maintain complete and accurate nursing records.
- Document medications, procedures, intake-output charts, nursing assessments, and progress notes.
- Record vital signs and observations as per ICU protocol.
- Report incidents and medication errors according to hospital policy.
Patient & Family Education
- Educate patients and relatives regarding treatment plans, medications, infection prevention, and discharge instructions.
- Provide emotional support and communicate patient status compassionately within hospital policy.
Coordination
- Coordinate with consultants, resident doctors, physiotherapists, dietitians, laboratory staff, radiology, pharmacy, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure timely investigations and treatment.
Safety Responsibilities
- Verify patient identity before procedures and medication administration.
- Follow medication safety practices.
- Prevent falls and pressure injuries.
- Ensure safe transfer of critically ill patients.
- Participate in disaster management and emergency response.
Quality & NABH Compliance
- Follow all hospital policies, SOPs, and nursing protocols.
- Participate in NABH quality improvement initiatives.
- Attend mandatory training sessions, CMEs, mock drills, and departmental meetings.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ethical nursing practices.
Qualifications
- GNM or B.Sc. Nursing (Mandatory)
- Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing preferred
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration
Experience
- Freshers may be considered after ICU orientation.
- 1–3 years of ICU experience preferred.
- Experience in handling ventilated and critically ill patients is desirable.

Pay: ₹10,439.88 - ₹20,476.42 per month
