Designation: Engineering Lead
Company: Healync Technologies Private Limited
Location: Mumbai or Kolkata
Reports To: [Founder]
Experience: 6+ years in software engineering, 2+ years leading engineering teams
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
Healync is a SaaS healthtech company building software for the healthcare industry. We are looking for an Engineering Lead to own how our product gets built — the data model, the architecture and the engineers who write the code.
This is a hands-on leadership role, not a purely managerial one. The person will be the single technical point of accountability for delivery: designing the models and databases that the platform is built on, driving the engineering team day to day, training and unblocking engineers, and working directly with product and sales so that what gets built is what the business actually needs.
The defining skill for this role is the ability to take a large, ambiguous problem and break it into a clear sequence of engineering tasks — then guide the team through it step by step so that every engineer understands both their task and the bigger picture it serves.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Delivery
· Drive the day-to-day work of the engineering team — planning, prioritisation, allocation and delivery against committed timelines.
· Unblock engineers: remove technical and organisational obstacles quickly, and step in personally on the hardest problems.
· Train and mentor the team through code review, pairing and structured feedback; raise the engineering standard as the team grows.
· Own engineering hiring — define the technical bar, interview, and onboard new engineers.
Model, Database & Architecture Design
· Own data model and database design across both relational and document stores — schema design, indexing, migrations, and data integrity.
· Design the service, API and integration architecture, and document the technology and build-versus-buy decisions behind it.
· Set and enforce standards for code quality, testing, version control, code review and technical documentation.
· Own the non-functional requirements: performance, scalability, availability and infrastructure cost.
· Ensure the platform meets healthcare data security, privacy and confidentiality obligations by design.
Breaking Down Complex Problems
· Take complex and often ambiguous product problems and decompose them into a sequenced set of engineering tasks with clear acceptance criteria.
· Guide the engineering team step by step from individual task to milestone to the larger goal, keeping the bigger picture visible throughout.
· Identify technical risk early, prototype where the answer is genuinely unclear, and make trade-offs explicit to management rather than burying them.
· Manage technical debt deliberately — decide what to take on, what to repay and when.
Cross-Functional Coordination
· Work with Product to shape requirements, size effort, challenge scope where needed and agree realistic delivery dates.
· Support Sales with technical input on demos, customer questions, security questionnaires, integration feasibility and implementation scoping.
· Translate reliably between technical and non-technical audiences, in writing and in person.
· Report honestly and regularly to management on progress, risks and blockers.
Engineering Operations
· Own deployment, environments, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting and incident response on AWS.
· Ensure releases are predictable and reversible, and that production issues are diagnosed and resolved quickly.
Candidate Requirements
Essential — Technical
· Django and Python, with strong working command of Django REST Framework.
· SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL — schema design, query optimisation and migrations.
· MongoDB or another NoSQL database, together with the judgement to know which store suits which problem.
· Angular, or a comparable modern frontend framework such as React or Vue.
· Flutter, or a comparable cross-platform mobile framework such as React Native.
· Working exposure to AWS — compute, storage, networking, managed databases and deployment.
Essential — Experience & Attributes
· 6+ years building and shipping production software, including at least 2 years leading a team of engineers.
· A track record of owning a system end to end, from data model through to production.
· Demonstrated ability to decompose complex problems and guide other engineers through them.
· Strong written and verbal communication in English, and the confidence to present to management and to customers.
· Based in Mumbai or Kolkata, or willing to relocate to either.
· High standards of confidentiality and personal integrity — the role involves sensitive healthcare data.
Preferred
· Experience in healthcare domain.
· Experience building multi-tenant B2B SaaS products.
· Exposure to AI tools.
What We Offer
· Direct access to the founders and genuine ownership of the technical direction of the product.
· The scope to build the engineering function, its standards and its team from an early stage.
· Work on a product where the outcome matters — software that supports healthcare delivery.
