Job Title: Business Development Manager – Steel Industry
Job Summary
The Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying, developing, and growing new business opportunities within the steel market. This role focuses on expanding customer accounts, increasing market share, and driving revenue growth across products such as structural steel, flat products, long products, or specialty steels. The position requires strong industry knowledge, customer relationship skills, and a commercial mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, automotive, energy, or other steel-consuming sectors
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with OEMs, fabricators, contractors, distributors, and key decision-makers
- Analyse market trends, pricing dynamics, and competitor activity within the steel industry
- Develop sales strategies and growth plans aligned with production capacity and company objectives
- Prepare and negotiate commercial proposals, contracts, and pricing agreements
- Coordinate with production, logistics, and quality teams to ensure customer requirements are met
- Monitor sales performance, margins, and customer profitability
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings
- Forecast demand and support production planning and inventory management
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in business development or sales within the steel or metals industry
- Strong understanding of steel products, grades, applications, and supply chain dynamics
- Proven track record of achieving revenue growth and developing new accounts
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to travel as required for customer and market development
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with international steel markets and exports
- Knowledge of pricing mechanisms, raw material cost drivers, and contract structures
- Familiarity with CRM systems and sales forecasting tools
- MBA or advanced commercial qualification
