The Librarian at The Indiranagar Cambridge School is responsible for managing the school library and fostering a vibrant reading culture among students and staff. The role involves maintaining library resources, supporting academic programs, promoting information literacy, and creating an engaging learning environment that encourages curiosity, research, and lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities Library Operations & Management
- Manage the day-to-day functioning of the school library.
- Organize, catalogue, classify, and maintain books, journals, reference materials, and digital resources.
- Maintain proper accession records, issue-return systems, and stock verification.
- Ensure proper shelving, cleanliness, and discipline within the library.
- Supervise circulation of books and maintenance of library assets.
Student & Academic Support
- Assist students and teachers in locating and utilizing library resources effectively.
- Encourage reading habits and independent learning among students across all grades.
- Support project-based learning and research activities.
- Coordinate with faculty members to procure curriculum-related books and learning materials.
Reading Culture & Activities
- Organize storytelling sessions, book reviews, reading challenges, literary competitions, and library week celebrations.
- Conduct orientation sessions for students on library usage and research skills.
- Promote digital literacy and responsible information usage.
Technology & Documentation
- Maintain library software and digital records efficiently.
- Generate reports related to book circulation, inventory, overdue books, and memberships.
- Support the use of e-books, digital learning tools, and multimedia resources.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare annual library plans, reports, and budget requirements.
- Coordinate procurement of books, magazines, newspapers, and subscriptions.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and academic standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Library Science (B.Lib / M.Lib).
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a school or academic library preferred.
- Knowledge of library management software and digital cataloguing systems.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
