Job Summary
The General Manager – Hypermart is responsible for the overall business performance and operational management of the hypermarket. The role focuses on driving sales growth, maximizing profitability, ensuring operational excellence, delivering outstanding customer service, leading cross-functional teams, and implementing business strategies to achieve organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities1. Business & Operations Management
- Lead and oversee all hypermarket operations.
- Develop and implement business strategies to achieve company objectives.
- Ensure efficient functioning of all departments.
- Monitor operational performance and improve productivity.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
2. Sales & Profitability
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Manage Profit & Loss (P&L) and maximize profitability.
- Analyze sales trends and implement growth strategies.
- Monitor expenses and control operational costs.
- Plan promotional campaigns and seasonal sales activities.
3. Customer Experience
- Ensure high standards of customer service.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and resolve escalated complaints.
- Improve customer loyalty through excellent service and operational efficiency.
4. Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead and manage departmental heads and store management teams.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop employees.
- Conduct performance reviews and succession planning.
- Build a positive, performance-driven work culture.
- Ensure effective manpower planning and employee engagement.
5. Inventory & Supply Chain Management
- Maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Reduce stock loss, shrinkage, and wastage.
- Coordinate with procurement, warehouse, and logistics teams.
- Ensure timely stock replenishment and availability.
6. Financial Management
- Prepare and manage annual operating budgets.
- Monitor financial performance and key business metrics.
- Improve return on investment (ROI) through cost optimization.
- Approve major operational expenditures.
7. Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and company policies.
- Maintain health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Implement risk management and loss prevention measures.
8. Reporting & Strategic Planning
- Prepare business performance reports for senior management.
- Review KPIs and implement corrective actions.
- Identify market opportunities and expansion strategies.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, Marketing, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Commerce, or a related field.
- MBA or Postgraduate qualification is preferred.
- 5–15+ years of experience in retail, supermarket, or hypermarket operations.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in a General Manager or senior leadership role.
