EHS Officer (Chemical Plant)
Role Overview
The EHS Officer will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing workplace safety, environmental compliance, and health programs within our chemical manufacturing plant. This role involves maintaining a proactive safety culture, ensuring strict adherence to high-risk process controls (such as Permit to Work and LOTO), managing hazardous waste, and ensuring full compliance with local, state, and national statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities
1. Workplace Safety & Process Control
· Enforce Safety Protocols: Direct the strict implementation of Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, and Hot Work procedures across all maintenance and production lines.
· Conduct Risk Assessments: Lead and execute Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and Pre-Start Safety Reviews (PSSR).
· Floor Inspections: Perform daily on-floor plant inspections to identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and structural hazards, taking immediate corrective measures.
· PPE Enforcement: Monitor the availability, condition, and strict usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tailored for chemical exposures.
2. Environmental & Hazardous Material Management
· Chemical Safety Management: Oversee the safe storage, handling, transfer, and compatibility mapping of hazardous chemicals and raw materials.
· Waste Disposal Compliance: Coordinate the segregation, tracking, and safe disposal of hazardous chemical waste, maintaining strict manifests.
· Effluent Oversight: Coordinate with the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) operators to ensure compliance with liquid waste discharge standards.
3. Incident Management & Emergency Preparedness
· Investigate Incidents: Lead root-cause analysis for near-misses, minor incidents, and major accidents using tools like CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action).
· Emergency Response: Maintain, track, and regularly test the plant’s Fire Hydrant Systems, sprinkler systems, and firefighting equipment.
· Drills & Planning: Conduct regular emergency mock drills, chemical spill response simulations, and train the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
4. Statutory Compliance & Documentation
· Regulatory Management: Ensure full compliance with relevant statutory laws (e.g., Factory Act, Pollution Control Board regulations, PESO, OSHA standards).
· Maintain Safety Records: Create and update regulatory registers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS), incident logs, and submit periodic safety forms to authorities.
· Integrated Management Systems: Support the implementation and auditing of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) systems.
5. Training & Safety Culture
· Onboarding & Inductions: Conduct mandatory EHS inductions for all new employees, contractors, and temporary on-site vendors.
· Toolbox Talks: Actively facilitate daily or weekly toolbox talks (TBT) focusing on localized chemical safety hazards. [
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
Education & Certifications
· Degree Requirements: Diploma,Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Fire & Safety Engineering.
· Mandatory Safety Qualification: Diploma in Industrial Safety (e.g., ADIS, PDIS) or globally recognized equivalents like NEBOSH International General Certificate.
Experience Requirements
· Minimum Experience: Insert range, e.g., 1 to 7 years of hands-on safety operations experience exclusively within a chemical plant, petrochemical facility, pharmaceutical manufacturing unit
Skills & Core Competencies
· Technical Knowledge: Expert understanding of chemical hygiene, process safety management (PSM), and hazard communication.
· Soft Skills: Direct and persuasive communication style with the ability to exercise Stop Work Authority (SWA) on the floor during immediate danger.
· Adaptability: Willingness to work in shifts and manage emergency response timelines proactively.
Pay: ₹300,000.00 - ₹600,000.00 per year
