Maintenance Engineer (Dairy Plant)
Job Summary
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of all production and utility equipment in the dairy plant through preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance. The role focuses on maximizing equipment uptime, improving plant efficiency, ensuring food safety compliance, and maintaining all machinery in accordance with statutory and company standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPreventive & Breakdown Maintenance
- Execute preventive maintenance schedules for all production and utility equipment.
- Attend and resolve equipment breakdowns with minimum downtime.
- Maintain maintenance history records and equipment logbooks.
- Ensure proper lubrication, calibration, and servicing of all machines.
Production Equipment Maintenance
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment such as:
- Pasteurizers
- Homogenizers
- Milk reception systems
- Cream separators
- CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems
- Paneer production lines
- Dahi and yogurt processing equipment
- Filling and packaging machines (FFS, Cup Filling Machines)
- Conveyors
- Chillers and refrigeration systems
- Boilers and steam pipelines
Utilities Management
- Monitor the operation of boilers, air compressors, refrigeration plants, DG sets, cooling towers, water treatment systems, ETP/STP, and electrical distribution systems.
- Coordinate with utility operators for smooth plant operation.
Reliability Improvement
- Analyze recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Identify opportunities for reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
- Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment.
Spare Parts Management
- Monitor inventory of critical spare parts.
- Raise material requisitions for consumables and spares.
- Coordinate with procurement for timely availability of materials.
Documentation
- Prepare daily maintenance reports.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
- Update equipment history cards.
- Ensure documentation complies with ISO, HACCP, FSSAI, GMP, and audit requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safe maintenance practices and adherence to LOTO (Lock-Out/Tag-Out) procedures.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety standards.
- Participate in internal and external audits.
Team Coordination
- Coordinate with production, quality assurance, stores, and utility teams.
- Supervise technicians, electricians, and maintenance staff.
- Train operators on proper equipment handling and basic maintenance practices.

Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Diploma holders with relevant dairy industry experience may also be considered.
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience in maintenance of dairy, food processing, beverage, or FMCG manufacturing plants.
- Experience with dairy processing equipment is preferred.
