We are seeking an experienced Senior Aerostructures Design Engineer to develop, integrate and implement technical solutions for our mission critical programmes of work. The role involves shared responsibility in the design of structural aircraft and components, identifying technical problems and creating technical solutions across all phases of a programme from conceptual design to product maturation.
- Must have the ability to act independently and build a team of associates skilled on aero structure production.
- Knowledge aero structures - Wings, Fuselage, Empennage
- The Design Engineer will develop, integrate and implement technical solutions for some of our mission critical programmes of work.
- Ensure designs are compliant with all relevant customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements and internal standards within the programme, schedule, and manufacturing constraints.
- Have a shared responsibility in the design of structural aircraft and components, identifying technical problems and creating technical solutions.
- Work with both metal and composite structures and different assembly techniques.
- Use a variety of methods and tools, for example CAD (experience using CATIA V5 and preferably NX / 3DX) software.
- Oversee a small team of structure engineers to guide, direct, design and production, based on the order quantities within stipulated timelines.
- Wing, Empennage Fuselage Aero structures detailed design & development and support production requirements where necessary.
- The design engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary team together with AI engineers, manufacturing engineers, R&D and flight operations teams.
- Working in all phases of a programme, starting with the conceptual phase, the full-scale phase in which the detailed design is translated into product drawings/ models, up to the product maturation phase assisting with problems during manufacturing and proposing changes to the detailed design in order to contribute to weight and cost savings.
- Work on the integration of all requirements and input from other engineering disciplines into the conceptual and detailed design, such that the product definition can be made and a cost-efficient and producible design is achieved.
- Propose design solutions, based on the correct balance of cost, quality, manufacturability, serviceability and performance.
- To communicate effectively with co-worker, customer and suppliers
- Design or amendment of Components, Products to a specification.
- Update the Bill of Materials (BOM) and write the Engineering Change Note (ECN)
- Prior experience in the below mentioned:
- Fixed wing aircraft / UAV design and development.
- Composite structures and manufacturing processes
- Structural load analysis and FEA
- Aerodynamic analysis tools
- Proficiency in engineering softwares such as:
- CATIA / SolidWorks / NX
- ANSYS / NASTRAN / Abaqus
- XFLR5 / MATLAB / similar analysis tools
- Ability to generate:
- Design reports
- Test plans
- Performance estimation sheets
- Technical documentation
