Stores Assistant – Job Description
Job Title: Stores Assistant
Department: Stores / Warehouse
Reporting To: Stores In-charge / Stores Manager
Location: Manufacturing / Central Kitchen / Warehouse
Job Purpose
To support the day-to-day operations of the stores by receiving, checking, storing, issuing, and maintaining accurate records of raw materials, packaging materials, consumables, and other inventory items while ensuring proper stock control and housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities
- Material Receiving
- Receive materials from suppliers against Purchase Orders (PO) and delivery documents.
- Check quantity, item description, packaging condition, and basic quality requirements.
- Report shortages, damages, or discrepancies to the Stores In-charge.
- Material Storage
- Properly arrange materials in designated storage locations.
- Follow FIFO/FEFO principles wherever applicable.
- Ensure proper identification and labelling of materials.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper housekeeping in the stores area.
- Material Issue
- Issue materials to production and other departments against approved Material Requisitions.
- Ensure correct quantity and item are issued.
- Record all material movements accurately.
- Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate stock records in ERP/software/registers.
- Assist in daily/weekly/monthly stock verification.
- Identify slow-moving, excess, damaged, or near-expiry materials.
- Support physical stock-taking and reconciliation.
- Documentation
- Maintain GRN, issue slips, stock registers, transfer notes, and other stores documents.
- Ensure timely updating of inventory transactions.
- Maintain proper filing of stores-related documents.
- Food/Raw Material Handling (for food manufacturing)
- Follow hygiene, sanitation, temperature-control, and food-safety requirements.
- Ensure raw materials are stored according to specified conditions.
- Monitor expiry dates and batch numbers.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Ensure materials are stacked safely and access pathways remain clear.
- Follow company policies, GMP, HACCP, and other applicable requirements.
- Coordination
- Coordinate with Purchase, Production, Quality, Finance, and other departments regarding material requirements and stock availability.
- Inform the Stores In-charge about shortages and urgent material requirements.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of stores/warehouse operations
- Basic computer knowledge, preferably MS Excel / ERP
- Good numerical and record-keeping skills
- Ability to identify and count materials accurately
- Good communication and coordination skills
- Knowledge of FIFO/FEFO is preferred
- Physically fit to handle routine stores activities
Pay: ₹13,000.00 - ₹18,000.00 per month
