JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced and technically proficient Senior Embryologist to independently manage and supervise IVF laboratory procedures. The candidate should have strong hands-on experience in ICSI, IVF, embryo culture, embryo grading, vitrification/freezing and thawing/warming of embryos and gametes.
The Senior Embryologist will be responsible for maintaining high laboratory standards, ensuring accurate handling and traceability of gametes and embryos, maintaining quality control, and supervising junior embryology staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. IVF & Embryology Procedures
- Independently perform and supervise routine IVF laboratory procedures.
- Perform oocyte identification, assessment, denudation and grading.
- Perform sperm preparation and processing for IVF/ICSI.
- Independently perform ICSI procedures with accuracy and precision.
- Perform conventional IVF insemination wherever required.
- Perform fertilization checks and document fertilization outcomes.
- Monitor embryo development from Day 1 through Day 5/6.
- Perform embryo grading and selection according to established laboratory protocols.
- Handle blastocyst culture and assessment.
- Prepare embryos for embryo transfer.
- Assist in embryo transfer procedures as required.
- Perform assisted hatching, wherever applicable.
2. Cryopreservation & Thawing
- Independently perform embryo vitrification/freezing and warming/thawing.
- Handle oocyte and sperm cryopreservation where required.
- Maintain and monitor cryostorage systems and cryotanks.
- Ensure correct identification, labeling and traceability of all frozen samples.
- Maintain accurate cryopreservation and thawing records.
- Monitor post-thaw survival and report any deviations immediately.
3. Embryology Laboratory Management
- Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the IVF laboratory.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, sterility and contamination-control protocols.
- Monitor incubators, temperature, CO₂/O₂ levels and other critical laboratory parameters.
- Ensure proper preparation and handling of culture media and consumables.
- Maintain equipment records, calibration schedules and maintenance logs.
- Ensure adequate availability of media, disposables and other laboratory consumables.
4. Quality Control & Compliance
- Follow all approved laboratory SOPs, quality-control procedures and safety protocols.
- Maintain complete documentation and traceability of all IVF laboratory procedures.
- Ensure proper witnessing and patient/sample identification at every critical stage.
- Maintain records related to fertilization, embryo development, freezing, thawing and embryo transfer.
- Participate in internal audits, quality reviews and corrective/preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable ART regulations and institutional policies.
5. Team Supervision & Training
- Supervise and guide Junior Embryologists and other laboratory staff.
- Train junior staff in IVF laboratory procedures and SOPs.
- Conduct competency assessments and provide technical guidance.
- Ensure proper delegation of laboratory responsibilities.
- Maintain discipline and professional standards within the embryology laboratory.
6. Clinical Coordination
- Coordinate closely with IVF consultants, nursing staff and the clinical team regarding IVF cycles.
- Coordinate laboratory activities for OPU, fertilization, embryo culture, embryo transfer and cryopreservation.
- Provide accurate embryo development and laboratory reports to the concerned clinical team.
- Participate in discussions regarding embryo development, freezing and transfer planning when required.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate laboratory registers, patient records and electronic documentation.
- Prepare daily/periodic embryology laboratory reports.
- Maintain IVF outcome data and laboratory KPIs.
- Report incidents, deviations or equipment-related issues immediately to the concerned authority.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient and laboratory information.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
The candidate must have strong hands-on experience in:
- ICSI – Independent handling
- IVF / Conventional insemination
- Oocyte retrieval laboratory support and oocyte identification
- Oocyte denudation and grading
- Sperm preparation and processing
- Fertilization assessment
- Embryo culture
- Embryo grading
- Blastocyst culture and assessment
- Embryo vitrification / freezing
- Embryo warming / thawing
- Oocyte and sperm cryopreservation
- Cryobank management
- Embryo transfer preparation
- Assisted hatching – preferred
- TESA/PESA and sperm preparation – preferred
- Basic understanding of embryo biopsy/PGT procedures – preferred
QUALIFICATION
- Master's Degree in Clinical Embryology / Reproductive Biology / Biotechnology / Life Sciences or equivalent relevant qualification.
- Candidate should meet the applicable eligibility requirements for working as an embryologist under prevailing ART regulations.
EXPERIENCE
- 8–9 years of relevant experience in a human IVF/ART laboratory.
- Strong preference for candidates who have independently handled ICSI, vitrification, warming/thawing and embryo culture.
- Experience in a high-volume IVF centre will be an added advantage.
- Previous experience in supervising or training junior embryologists is preferred.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary Range: ₹80,000 – ₹1,00,000 per month

- Leadership and laboratory management experience
- Technical competency and interview performance
REPORTING
Reports To: HOD – IVF / Clinical Director / Medical Director
ROLE EXPECTATION
The selected candidate will be expected to take independent responsibility for embryology laboratory procedures, maintain high technical and quality standards, supervise the embryology team, and contribute to achieving consistent IVF laboratory outcomes.
Pay: ₹80,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
