Job Summary
The Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) / Medical Administrator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day medical and administrative operations of the hospital. The role ensures efficient clinical coordination, patient safety, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and optimal utilization of hospital resources while maintaining high standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities1. Hospital Operations
- Supervise the daily functioning of all clinical departments.
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing, allied health professionals, and support services.
- Ensure smooth patient flow from admission to discharge.
- Monitor hospital occupancy, bed management, and emergency services.
2. Clinical Administration
- Ensure implementation of hospital policies, SOPs, and clinical protocols.
- Coordinate medical staff scheduling and duty rosters.
- Monitor consultant attendance and clinical documentation.
- Ensure timely completion of patient medical records.
3. Patient Care & Safety
- Promote patient-centered care and safety practices.
- Investigate patient complaints and coordinate corrective actions.
- Monitor adverse events, sentinel events, and incident reporting.
- Participate in mortality and morbidity reviews.
4. Quality & NABH Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards and statutory regulations.
- Participate in internal audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor quality indicators and departmental KPIs.
- Coordinate accreditation activities and corrective action plans.
5. Infection Prevention & Control
- Work closely with the Infection Control Committee.
- Monitor infection control practices across departments.
- Ensure compliance with biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Promote hand hygiene and patient safety initiatives.
6. Human Resource Coordination
- Coordinate recruitment requirements for clinical staff.
- Participate in credentialing and privileging of doctors.
- Conduct orientation programs for new consultants and medical staff.
- Assist in performance evaluation of medical personnel.
7. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Clinical Establishments Act, Biomedical Waste Rules, Fire & Safety regulations, and other applicable healthcare laws.
- Coordinate inspections by government and regulatory authorities.
- Maintain statutory licenses related to medical services.
8. Financial & Resource Management
- Monitor departmental budgets and resource utilization.
- Ensure optimal utilization of hospital equipment and infrastructure.
- Coordinate procurement requirements with purchase and biomedical departments.
- Reduce wastage while maintaining quality patient care.
9. Committees & Meetings
- Serve as member/secretary of hospital committees, including:
- Medical Advisory Committee
- Infection Control Committee
- Quality Committee
- Biomedical Waste Committee
- Mortality & Morbidity Committee
- Patient Safety Committee
- Prepare meeting minutes and ensure implementation of action plans.
10. Emergency Preparedness
- Coordinate disaster management plans.
- Ensure emergency response protocols are followed.
- Lead hospital response during medical emergencies and disasters.
11. Training & Development
- Organize Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
- Conduct training on clinical protocols and patient safety.
- Promote continuous professional development among medical staff
