Job Title: Mechanical Engineer - Electronics Product Development
Location: Hyderabad
Experience: 3+ Years
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary
We are seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our electronics product development team. This role focuses on the mechanical design, prototyping, and enclosure development for consumer and industrial electronics products, including checkout kiosks, self-service terminals, IoT devices, and embedded systems. The ideal candidate will excel in creating robust, user-centric, and manufacturable mechanical solutions that seamlessly integrate with electronic components, ensuring thermal efficiency, durability, and aesthetic appeal from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design for electronics products, including full product prototyping, conceptual sketching, 3D modeling, and iterative design refinement.
- Design protective and functional enclosures for electronic assemblies, incorporating thermal management (e.g., heat sinks, fans, passive cooling), structural integrity, environmental protection (e.g., IP65/IP67 dust/water resistance, IK10 vandal resistance, EMI shielding), and cable routing.
- Develop kiosk and terminal prototypes, focusing on ergonomics, user interaction (e.g., optimal touchscreen angles, payment module integration, scanner/printer placement), accessibility (ADA compliance), and modularity for easy maintenance.
- Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo) to create detailed 3D models, assemblies, sheet metal designs, injection-molded parts, manufacturing drawings, and tolerance analyses.
- Perform simulations (e.g., FEA for structural and drop testing, CFD for thermal and airflow analysis) to validate designs and optimize performance.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, PCB designers, industrial designers, firmware teams, and manufacturing partners to ensure seamless electromechanical integration and design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM/DFA).
- Hands-on prototype development using rapid methods (e.g., 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, vacuum forming) and oversee functional, environmental, and reliability testing (e.g., vibration, temperature cycling, drop tests).
- Research and select materials (e.g., aluminum, polycarbonate, ABS, stainless steel) and finishes to balance cost, weight, aesthetics, sustainability, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., UL 62368-1, CE, FCC for EMI, RoHS, REACH, IP/IK ratings, PCI DSS for payment-related products).
- Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, technical documentation, and support design reviews, vendor qualification, tooling, and production ramp-up.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design for electronics products, consumer devices, kiosks, or embedded systems.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) and simulation software (ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar for FEA/CFD).
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping techniques and iterative design cycles.
- Strong knowledge of materials science, thermal management, mechanics, tolerance stacking, and electronics packaging.
- Experience with DFM/DFA, cost optimization, and high-volume manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, die casting, sheet metal).
· Experience designing self-service kiosks, POS terminals, vending machines, or retail electronics.
- Familiarity with industry standards for electronics enclosures (IP/IK, UL, CE, EMI/RFI shielding).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration, design presentations, and incorporating stakeholder feedback.
