Role Overview
The Interior Designer cum Estimator is a dual-role position combining creative design capability with commercial costing accuracy. This person will translate client requirements into compelling cabinetry/interior designs while simultaneously preparing accurate cost estimates — ensuring designs are both aesthetically strong and commercially viable from concept through to production handover.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign
- Design Documentation: Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and design packages ready for estimation and production.
- Revisions: Incorporate client feedback and iterate designs while tracking impact on cost and feasibility.
Estimation
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed estimates and BOQs for approved designs — covering materials, hardware, finishes, labor, and installation.
- Quotation Preparation: Convert estimates into client-ready quotations, working within pricing guidelines and margin targets.
- Vendor & Material Pricing: Maintain current pricing knowledge for materials and hardware; coordinate with suppliers and production for cost validation.
- Value Engineering: Propose design/material alternatives to optimize cost without compromising the design intent.
- Design-to-Production Handover: Ensure finalized designs and estimates are production-ready, coordinating with manufacturing teams
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in interior/cabinetry design, with hands-on exposure to costing/estimation.
- Proficiency in design software (Aixperia, Coohom. AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, or similar) and comfort with parametric/CAM tools used in modular cabinetry.
- Strong understanding of cabinetry construction, materials (laminates, veneers, solid surfaces, hardware systems), and finishes.
- Ability to read and generate BOQs and technical drawings.
- Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong numerical accuracy for costing work.
Preferred Attributes
- Prior experience in a premium/luxury interiors or cabinetry brand.
- Familiarity with cloud-based design-to-production platforms (e.g., Aixperia).
- Ability to independently manage a project from client brief through to production handover.
