Sports Teacher – Job Description
A Sports Teacher is responsible for planning and conducting physical education and sports activities for students, helping them develop physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct physical education classes and sports training sessions.
- Teach students the rules, techniques, and skills of various indoor and outdoor sports.
- Organize sports events, competitions, tournaments, and annual sports days.
- Assess students’ physical fitness, sports skills, and overall participation.
- Encourage students to participate in sports and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
- Train and coach school teams for inter-school and other competitions.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and safe storage of sports equipment.
- Maintain discipline and ensure students follow safety rules during sports activities.
- Identify talented students and provide appropriate coaching and guidance.
- Maintain records of student participation and performance.
- Promote teamwork, leadership, discipline, fair play, and sportsmanship.
- Ensure a safe and positive environment for all students during physical activities.
- Coordinate with school management, teachers, parents, and coaches when required.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) or a relevant qualification.
- Good knowledge of different sports and physical fitness activities.
- Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills.
- Ability to motivate and manage students effectively.
- Good knowledge of sports safety and injury-prevention practices.
- Physical fitness and enthusiasm for sports.
- Ability to organize sports events and competitions.
- Prior teaching or coaching experience is an advantage.
Working Conditions
- Work primarily in schools, playgrounds, sports grounds, gyms, or indoor sports facilities.
- May require participation in school events, competitions, and tournaments outside regular school hours.
- May occasionally require weekend or holiday work for sports events.
