2. Job Purpose
To lead the complete Quality Control function for submersible pump manufacturing, ensuring that incoming materials, in-process components, assemblies, and finished pump sets meet defined technical specifications, customer requirements, and applicable BIS/IS standards.
The QC Head will be responsible for establishing robust inspection and testing systems, reducing rejection and customer complaints, improving process quality, and developing a strong quality culture across production.
3. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Quality Control & Inspection
- Develop and implement QC procedures for the complete submersible pump manufacturing process.
- Establish incoming, in-process, final inspection and testing procedures.
- Ensure inspection of critical pump components such as:
- Impellers
- Diffusers / Pump Bowls
- Shafts
- Casings
- Bushes
- Wear Rings
- Suction Casings
- Discharge Casings
- Couplings
- Seals, gaskets and other critical components.
- Ensure dimensional inspection against approved drawings and specifications.
- Monitor critical dimensions, tolerances, fitment, concentricity, runout, balancing and surface-finish requirements.
- Ensure proper inspection of motor-pump assembly and coupling.
- Establish and maintain quality checkpoints at every critical manufacturing stage.
B. Pump Performance Testing
- Lead the complete pump testing function and ensure availability of proper testing facilities.
- Ensure testing of finished pump sets for:
- Head
- Discharge / Flow
- Efficiency
- Power consumption
- Current
- Voltage
- Speed
- Operating range
- Hydrostatic pressure
- Leakage
- Vibration, wherever applicable.
- Ensure pump performance is verified against the approved duty point and product specification.
- Coordinate with the motor quality/testing team for electrical and motor-related tests.
- Review and approve final test reports before product dispatch.
BIS requirements for submersible pumpsets include performance verification for nominal flow, head and overall efficiency, along with relevant pump and motor testing.
C. BIS / Standards Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable BIS/IS requirements, particularly IS 8034:2018 – Submersible Pumpsets – Specification.
- Maintain all required quality and testing records for certification and audits.
- Ensure product marking and technical information are correct as per applicable requirements.
- Coordinate with BIS and external testing laboratories whenever required.
- Ensure all testing equipment is periodically calibrated and calibration records are maintained.
BIS documentation specifically requires suitable testing facilities, test records, and periodic checking/calibration of measuring and testing equipment.
D. Incoming Quality Control – IQC
- Establish supplier incoming inspection standards.
- Inspect raw materials, bought-out components and critical components.
- Prepare and maintain incoming inspection reports.
- Identify supplier-related quality issues and coordinate corrective actions.
- Develop supplier quality rating and performance monitoring systems.
- Work with Purchase and suppliers to improve material quality.
E. In-Process Quality Control – IPQC
- Monitor quality at every critical production stage.
- Define inspection checkpoints and control plans.
- Conduct regular process audits.
- Identify process deviations and ensure immediate corrective action.
- Monitor rejection, rework and repair trends.
- Work closely with Production, Design, Purchase and Maintenance teams to eliminate recurring quality problems.
F. Final Quality Control – FQC
- Ensure 100% or defined sampling inspection of finished products as per approved inspection plans.
- Verify product specifications, dimensions, assembly, appearance and performance.
- Review test reports before final approval.
- Ensure only approved products are released for packing and dispatch.
- Maintain proper traceability of finished pump sets through model number, batch number and serial number.
G. Non-Conformance & CAPA
- Establish an effective Non-Conforming Product (NCR) system.
- Analyze rejection and customer complaints using:
- 5 Why
- Fishbone Analysis
- Pareto Analysis
- 8D
- Root Cause Analysis.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Track CAPA until effectiveness is verified.
- Reduce internal rejection, rework and customer complaints.
4. Customer Complaint Management
- Investigate customer complaints related to pump performance, leakage, noise, vibration, discharge, head, efficiency, motor failure and other quality issues.
- Coordinate with Production, Service, Design and R&D teams for root-cause analysis.
- Prepare technical complaint reports and 8D reports.
- Monitor repeat complaints and implement permanent corrective actions.
5. Quality Documentation & Systems
- Prepare and maintain:
- Quality Manual
- SOPs
- Inspection Standards
- Control Plans
- Inspection Check Sheets
- Test Reports
- NCR Reports
- CAPA Records
- Calibration Records
- Quality Alerts
- Process Audit Reports.
- Maintain proper quality documentation and traceability.
- Ensure compliance with company QMS and applicable ISO requirements.
- Participate in internal, customer and certification audits.
6. Quality Improvement & Cost Reduction
- Establish quality KPIs for the department.
- Monitor:
- Internal rejection %
- Rework %
- Customer complaint rate
- First Pass Yield
- Supplier rejection %
- Warranty failures
- Cost of Poor Quality.
- Drive continuous improvement projects.
- Reduce rejection, rework, scrap and warranty costs.
- Implement statistical quality control techniques wherever applicable.
7. Team Management
- Lead and manage QC Inspectors, Quality Engineers, Testing Engineers and laboratory personnel.
- Allocate inspection and testing responsibilities.
- Train team members on drawings, measuring instruments, inspection methods and quality standards.
- Conduct regular quality awareness and technical training for Production and Quality teams.
- Establish accountability and performance standards for the QC department.
8. Calibration & Testing Equipment
Ensure proper control and calibration of:
- Vernier Calipers
- Micrometers
- Bore Gauges
- Height Gauges
- Dial Gauges
- Pressure Gauges
- Flow Meters
- Energy Meters
- Multimeters
- Meggers
- High Voltage Testers
- Temperature Measuring Instruments
- Vibration Meters
- RPM Meters
- Pump Test Bench Instruments.
Maintain calibration schedules and ensure no expired instrument is used for inspection or testing.
9. Coordination With Other Departments
The QC Head will closely coordinate with:
Production: Process control, rejection reduction and quality improvement.
Purchase: Supplier quality and incoming material issues.
Design/R&D: Drawing/specification changes and product improvement.
Store: Material identification, segregation and traceability.
Testing: Pump and motor performance validation.
Dispatch: Final product release and documentation.
Service: Customer complaint and field failure analysis.
10. Required Qualification
Education:
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Electrical or related engineering discipline.
Preferred Certifications:
- ISO 9001 Quality Management System
- Internal Auditor
- Six Sigma / Quality Management
- Relevant BIS/IS standards knowledge.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹70,000.00 per month
