Technical Manager
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Technical Manager to oversee all technical operations, maintenance, and engineering functions for our commercial building portfolio. This role requires a strategic leader who can manage complex building systems, lead technical teams, and ensure optimal facility performance while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and tenant satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Operations & Maintenance Oversee day-to-day technical operations of commercial building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire life safety, and building automation systems. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime. Monitor building performance metrics and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
Team Leadership & Management Lead and develop a team of maintenance technicians, engineers, and contractors. Provide technical guidance, training, and performance management to ensure team effectiveness. Coordinate work assignments, schedules, and priorities to optimize resource utilization.
Project Management Plan, budget, and execute capital improvement projects and major maintenance initiatives. Manage vendor relationships and contractor performance. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
Energy & Sustainability Management Monitor energy consumption patterns and implement efficiency initiatives. Support sustainability goals through system optimization and technology upgrades. Track utility costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Compliance & Safety Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes and regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and best practices. Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect building occupants and staff.
Tenant Relations & Service Delivery Respond to tenant service requests and concerns in a professional and timely manner. Collaborate with property management teams to ensure high tenant satisfaction. Participate in tenant meetings and address technical inquiries.
Budget & Financial Management Develop annual operating and capital budgets for technical operations. Monitor expenses against budget and provide variance reporting. Make cost-effective decisions that balance operational needs with financial objectives.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
10-15 years of progressive experience in commercial building operations, facility management, or related technical field
Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or management capacity
Technical Competencies
Expert knowledge of building electrical systems, power distribution, lighting controls, and emergency power systems
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building automation systems (BAS), and energy management systems
Proficiency with building management software and maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Knowledge of fire life safety systems, plumbing, and vertical transportation systems
Professional Skills
Proven leadership abilities with experience managing technical teams
Excellent project management skills with ability to handle multiple priorities
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Effective communication skills with ability to interact with diverse stakeholders
Budget development and financial management experience
