About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with hands-on experience in 3D and surface modelling of fabrics and composite/ceramic helmet shells for the design and development of advanced protective structures.
The candidate will primarily be responsible for creating and modifying complex 3D and surface geometries using Siemens NX CAD, with particular emphasis on fabric components, composite structures, and helmet shells. This position requires practical experience in developing complex freeform and surface-based geometries and converting design concepts into accurate, manufacturable and simulation-ready models.
Key Responsibilities
1. 3D & Surface Modelling – Mandatory
- Develop detailed 3D models and surface models using Siemens NX CAD.
- Create and modify complex freeform surfaces for fabric components, composite structures and helmet shells.
- Develop surface geometry for composite and ceramic helmet shells, including complex contours and transitions.
- Model fabric-based components and represent their required geometry, interfaces and fitment.
- Convert concepts, sketches, reference geometry and existing models into accurate 3D CAD models.
- Perform surface trimming, joining, healing, blending and modification as required.
- Ensure proper surface continuity, geometry quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Prepare geometry suitable for downstream manufacturing, analysis and prototyping activities.
- Modify existing CAD models based on design changes, test observations and development requirements.
2. Composite & Helmet Structure Modelling
- Develop CAD models of composite and ceramic helmet shells and associated components.
- Understand the basic construction and geometry of composite helmet structures.
- Support modelling of different shell configurations, thickness variations, interfaces and component integration.
- Develop accurate surface geometry considering manufacturing and assembly requirements.
- Support preparation of models for prototype development and testing.
3. CAD Documentation
- Prepare 2D drawings and manufacturing documentation using Siemens NX.
- Generate dimensions, tolerances, sections and relevant design details.
- Prepare assembly drawings and component drawings as required.
- Maintain CAD models and associated engineering documentation.
4. Design Support
- Work closely with design, analysis, manufacturing and testing teams.
- Incorporate design feedback and test results into CAD models.
- Support prototype development and design iterations.
- Assist in maintaining configuration-controlled CAD data and engineering documentation.
Mandatory Experience & Skills
Hands-on experience is mandatory in the following areas:
- Siemens NX CAD – 3D modelling and surface modelling
- Surface modelling of fabrics and fabric-based components
- 3D/surface modelling of composite and/or ceramic helmet shells
- Experience in developing complex/freeform surfaces
- Experience in modifying and repairing complex surface geometry
- Ability to create accurate and high-quality CAD models from reference geometry, drawings or concepts
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances
Preferred Experience
- Experience in helmet design or protective structures
- Experience with composite structures and composite manufacturing
- Experience working with fabric-reinforced or flexible materials
- Exposure to aerospace, defence, automotive or advanced composite product development
Important
Relevant hands-on experience in Siemens NX 3D/surface modelling, particularly modelling of fabrics and composite/ceramic helmet shells, is mandatory.
Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to general mechanical part modelling, drafting or basic CAD work without relevant surface-modelling experience will not be considered.
Who Should Apply
Candidates with 1–2 years of relevant industry/project experience in complex 3D and surface modelling who are interested in working on advanced protective structures, composite materials and helmet development. Candidates should be comfortable working on complex geometries and should have demonstrable experience in Siemens NX surface modelling.
