Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Material Engineer to head technical operations, material formulations, and high-temperature firing processes at our facility in Doddaballapur.
The ideal candidate has strong expertise in raw clay/ceramic processing and prior experience operating and managing kilns (tunnel, shuttle, or batch kilns). You will be directly responsible for establishing optimal firing curves, maintaining product structural integrity, and reducing defect rates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Kiln & Thermal Processing:
- Manage and monitor kiln operations, thermal cycles, soaking periods, and cooling rates to ensure consistent product strength, density, and finish.
- Supervise setting, kiln car loading, firing profiles, and unloading to prevent thermal shock, cracking, and warpage.
- Oversee burner tuning, thermocouple calibration, pyrometric monitoring, and kiln refractory upkeep.
- Material Testing & Formulation:
- Characterize and standardize raw materials (clays, silica, grog, feldspar, and additives).
- Formulate and batch ceramic and terracotta mixes to meet shrinkage, plasticity, water absorption, and compressive strength specifications.
- Supervise drying cycles and moisture levels prior to kiln entry.
- Quality Assurance & Defect Reduction:
- Conduct root-cause analysis for firing and drying issues (e.g., bloat, pinholing, cracks, uneven color, or warping).
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and testing standards across raw material receiving, green ware, and post-firing inspection.
- Process Optimization:
- Work on energy and fuel efficiency within the thermal firing process.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure zero downtime and strict adherence to industrial safety protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: B.Tech / B.E. / Diploma in Ceramic Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or Metallurgy.
- Experience: 2 to 6+ years in ceramic, terracotta, tile, brick, or refractory manufacturing.
- Kiln Experience: Direct hands-on experience handling kilns and setting temperature/firing curves is strongly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid grasp of ceramic phase transformations, shrinkage calculation, thermal expansion, and drying kinetics.
- Work Location: Must be willing to work on-site at our manufacturing plant in Doddaballapur.
