Job Summary
The Fabric Cutting Incharge is responsible for overseeing all fabric cutting activities, ensuring that fabric is cut accurately according to production specifications, minimizing wastage, maintaining quality standards, and meeting production schedules. The role involves supervising cutting staff, managing fabric inventory in the cutting department, and ensuring efficient utilization of machinery and manpower.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Planning
- Plan daily cutting schedules based on production requirements.
- Coordinate with Production, Merchandising, and Stores departments.
- Ensure timely availability of fabrics and cutting accessories.
Fabric Inspection & Lay Planning
- Verify fabric quality before cutting.
- Check fabric shade, defects, width, and shrinkage.
- Prepare marker and lay plans to maximize fabric utilization.
- Ensure proper fabric spreading as per specifications.
Cutting Operations
- Supervise manual and machine cutting operations.
- Ensure cutting accuracy according to patterns and markers.
- Monitor cutting efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure all cut panels are correctly bundled and labeled.
Quality Control
- Ensure compliance with approved patterns and measurements.
- Monitor cutting quality to avoid mismatched or defective panels.
- Minimize cutting errors and fabric wastage.
- Implement corrective actions whenever quality issues arise.
Team Management
- Supervise cutting operators, helpers, and spreading staff.
- Allocate work and monitor employee performance.
- Train new employees on cutting procedures and safety practices.
- Maintain discipline and productivity within the department.
Inventory & Material Control
- Maintain records of fabric consumption and wastage.
- Reconcile fabric issued versus fabric consumed.
- Report shortages, excess consumption, or discrepancies.
- Coordinate with the Stores department for fabric requirements.
Machine Maintenance
- Ensure cutting machines and equipment are maintained properly.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance with the maintenance department.
- Report machine breakdowns promptly.
Documentation
- Maintain daily production reports.
- Record fabric utilization and wastage reports.
- Update cutting status and production records.
- Maintain job cards and cutting registers.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards.
- Promote safe handling of cutting machines and tools.
- Maintain housekeeping in the cutting section.
- Follow company quality and compliance procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree (preferred).
- Technical qualification in Garment Manufacturing or Textile Technology is an advantage.
Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in garment manufacturing or textile production.
- Minimum 2–3 years in a supervisory role within the cutting department.
