About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Head of Platform Engineering to lead the evolution of our global DevOps, cloud, and infrastructure ecosystem at Webskitters.
This is a high-impact leadership position responsible for defining the strategy, architecture, and operational excellence of our internal platforms that empower development teams, drive automation, and deliver value across a diverse portfolio of global clients.
As the strategic owner of our cloud platform and delivery framework, you will oversee the creation of scalable, secure, and self-service systems that enable engineering agility, cost efficiency, and consistent quality across all projects. The role requires deep technical expertise in AWS, proven team leadership experience, and strong exposure to service-based delivery models.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Organisational Leadership
· Define, implement, and own the enterprise-wide Platform Engineering strategy, ensuring it aligns with organisational goals, delivery models, and long-term technology objectives.
· Lead the transition from traditional DevOps practices to a platform-first engineering culture, built around automation, reliability, and developer empowerment.
· Establish a multi-tenant platform architecture suitable for a global service organisation handling varied client workloads, regulatory needs, and delivery models.
· Develop and maintain a comprehensive technology roadmap, ensuring continuous modernisation of infrastructure, observability, and CI/CD processes.
· Collaborate with the CTO and senior leadership to define cloud governance, budget forecasting, and platform performance objectives.
Technical Ownership & Architecture
· Architect and manage cloud-native infrastructure on AWS, leveraging advanced services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, Lambda, CloudFront, VPC, and Route 53.
· Design, implement, and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices using Terraform, Pulumi, or AWS CloudFormation to ensure consistent and repeatable deployments.
· Lead the design and optimisation of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, etc.), enabling high-frequency and low-risk software releases.
· Drive the adoption of containerisation and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker) to standardise and simplify deployment pipelines across client projects.
· Establish observability and monitoring standards using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, or ELK/EFK for real-time visibility and proactive issue management.
· Develop and oversee disaster recovery, business continuity, and multi-region deployment strategies to ensure resilience and uptime.
· Work closely with Security and Compliance teams to integrate robust access control, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR).
Operational Excellence
· Lead operational governance for cloud environments, ensuring performance, cost optimisation, and SLA adherence.
· Define and monitor service-level objectives (SLOs) and service-level indicators (SLIs) to track availability, latency, and reliability.
· Implement automation strategies to reduce manual dependencies, deployment times, and infrastructure maintenance overhead.
· Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement processes, driving operational maturity across environments.
· Promote cost visibility and accountability across projects through effective budgeting and monitoring of AWS spend.
Team Leadership & Management
· Build and manage a high-performing Platform Engineering team, encompassing DevOps Engineers, Cloud Architects, Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), and Automation Specialists.
· Provide hands-on leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to ensure consistent skill development and delivery excellence.
· Develop career progression paths, performance management frameworks, and training initiatives for team growth.
· Foster a collaborative engineering culture across departments, driving alignment between development, QA, and operations.
· Represent the Platform Engineering function in technical reviews, architectural discussions, and executive strategy sessions.
· Proven team management experience is mandatory, with a demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain technical talent in distributed or hybrid environments.
Stakeholder & Client Collaboration
· Partner with internal and external stakeholders to ensure platform capabilities align with client delivery requirements and organisational goals.
· Support pre-sales and solutioning efforts by providing architectural inputs, effort estimation, and platform strategy for proposals.
· Communicate platform performance, cloud spend, and reliability metrics to executive leadership and client-facing delivery teams.
· Collaborate with product, security, and quality assurance teams to streamline integration and operational workflows.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
· AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional or Associate) – Mandatory.
· 12–15 years of total experience in DevOps, Cloud Infrastructure, or Platform Engineering.
· Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership or team management capacity.
· Proven track record in a service-based organisation, leading cloud and platform teams across multiple client projects.
o Strong expertise in: AWS Cloud Infrastructure (networking, storage, compute, scaling).
o CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, CodePipeline, or equivalent).
o Container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
o Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation).
o Monitoring and Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
· Experience implementing automation for deployment, configuration management, and system scaling.
· Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, compliance frameworks, and cloud security best practices.
· Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
· Additional certifications in Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), DevOps, or Cloud Security.
· Experience working in multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
· Exposure to compliance-driven industries (finance, healthcare, or enterprise IT).
· Experience or certification in Cyber and Data Security will be considered a significant advantage. (e.g., CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or practical exposure to data protection and secure cloud architecture).
