We are seeking a highly skilled MQ Administrator to manage, optimize, and support enterprise messaging and middleware infrastructure in demanding, 24x7 operational environments.
Role Overview
The MQ Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, security, and performance optimization of enterprise messaging systems, primarily IBM MQ and related middleware technologies. The role requires strong expertise in high-availability messaging architecture, integration support, incident management, and coordination with application, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operations teams.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, operational discipline, proactive problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to work effectively in high-pressure, mission-critical aviation environments.
Key Responsibilities
Middleware & MQ Administration
- Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain IBM MQ environments across development, testing, staging, and production systems.
- Create and manage Queue Managers, Queues, Channels, Listeners, Clusters, Topics, and security configurations.
- Configure and support distributed MQ environments across Linux, Windows, and cloud platforms.
- Manage MQ clustering, multi-instance queue managers, failover configurations, and high-availability setups.
- Perform routine health checks and preventive maintenance activities.
- Monitor queue depth, channel status, message flow, and overall middleware performance.
- Troubleshoot messaging failures, connectivity issues, latency problems, and application integration incidents.
- Support SSL/TLS configurations, certificate management, and secure messaging practices.
- Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures for middleware environments.
- Maintain middleware standards, naming conventions, and operational procedures.
System Integration Support
- Coordinate with application teams, system integrators, OEM vendors, and infrastructure teams during deployments and integrations.
- Support airport operational systems integrations involving mission-critical applications.
- Assist in interface troubleshooting between enterprise systems, operational databases, APIs, and third-party applications.
- Analyze message flow logs and transaction traces for issue resolution.
- Support SIT, UAT, production rollout, and cutover activities.
Monitoring & Incident Management
- Provide L2/L3 support for production middleware incidents.
- Participate in 24x7 operational support and on-call rotations when required.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with SLA, availability, and operational KPIs.
- Maintain incident records, operational logs, and technical documentation.
Security & Compliance
- Ensure middleware infrastructure complies with organizational cybersecurity policies.
- Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and audit logging mechanisms.
- Support vulnerability remediation, security audits, and compliance activities.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity teams for hardening and risk mitigation.
Automation & Optimization
- Develop and maintain automation scripts for monitoring, deployment, backup, and maintenance activities.
- Identify opportunities for performance tuning and operational improvements.
- Support infrastructure modernization and cloud migration initiatives where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in IBM MQ Administration.
- Strong experience in enterprise middleware administration in production environments.
- Experience working on Linux and Windows server environments.
- Good understanding of TCP/IP, networking, firewall concepts, and secure communication protocols.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery configurations.
- Knowledge of shell scripting or automation scripting.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based incident and change management processes.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in aviation, airport systems, transportation, or mission-critical environments.
- Knowledge of IBM ACE/IIB, Kafka, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, or other messaging platforms.
- Experience with containerized or cloud-based middleware deployments.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, AppDynamics, Splunk, or similar.
- Understanding of APIs, REST/SOAP integrations, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience supporting large-scale system integration projects.
- Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD practices.
