Reporting into the Engineering Director, the Technical Lead will own end-to-end engineering delivery for Citeline’s News & Insights portfolio.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role that sits at the intersection of editorial, product and engineering, with significant external vendor and partner management. where feasible tech lead will be responsible for minimizing vendor dependencies and will bring end-2-end tech stack in house.

The Technical Lead is accountable for the architecture, technical roadmap and day-to-day engineering health of the platforms that serve global newsrooms and a paying B2B subscriber base.

They will lead a small in-house engineering pod and direct the work of external development partners who build and support several of the underlying platform components.

We are looking for a Technical Lead who has built and run digital publishing platforms in a newsroom or B2B media environment, who can hold their own with editorial leaders and external vendors, and who is comfortable moving between architecture, code, and commercial conversations.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Own the technical roadmap and architecture for the News & Insights publishing platforms across the Citeline portfolio.

Lead a small in-house engineering team and direct external development partners — set scope, review delivery, hold vendors accountable on quality, cost and timelines.

Partner directly with editorial leadership, product management and design to translate newsroom and subscriber needs into technical capability — publishing workflows, embargoes, taxonomy, content modelling, syndication, SEO and search.

Stay hands-on: contribute to high-impact features, lead key technical decisions, run code reviews, and set engineering standards across in-house and vendor code.

Architect for performance, reliability and SEO at scale — CDN strategy, edge caching, structured data, Core Web Vitals, accessibility.

Own integration with paywall, identity, entitlement and subscription systems; ensure a clean reader and subscriber experience across brands.

Drive production reliability and incident response for subscriber-facing platforms; own SLAs with internal and external partners.

Evaluate new technologies, vendors and CMS / platform options; lead build-vs-buy and vendor selection decisions and present recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Champion modern engineering practice — CI/CD, automated testing, observability, security and code quality — across in-house and vendor teams.

8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical lead, principal engineer or equivalent role leading delivery across in-house and external teams, with AI-enabled end to end software development life cycle.[SD2.1]

Direct experience working in a newsroom, digital publishing or B2B media engineering environment is essential — you have shipped and operated platforms that serve journalists and paying readers.

Hands-on experience with headless or traditional CMS platforms (e.g. ArcXP) and an understanding of editorial workflows, content modelling, taxonomy and embargo handling.

Strong Node.js and modern frontend experience (React, Next.js or equivalent).

Experience designing and operating search at scale (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Algolia or comparable) for content discovery.

Experience with CDN, edge caching and performance optimisation for high-traffic content sites; comfortable owning SEO, structured data and schema.org implementations.

AWS (or comparable cloud) experience, plus modern build and deployment tooling (Docker, CI/CD, Azure DevOps or equivalent).

Proven vendor and external partner management — you can scope work, evaluate proposals, negotiate trade-offs, run an SOW and hold delivery partners accountable.

Strong written and verbal communication; comfortable in conversations with editors, product, commercial and exec stakeholders, and credible in vendor negotiations.

Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MySQL or similar); pragmatic about choosing the right store for the job.

Experience in pharma, healthcare or B2B intelligence sectors is a plus.
