Position Summary:
As the Materials Planner/Procurement Specialist for our electro-mechanical assemblies supply base, you will own end-to-end supply planning and procurement performance across key spend categories such as raw materials, machine shops, special process suppliers (e.g., plating, anodize, heat treat, cleaning), electrical wire/cable, hardware, and related components. You will partner closely with suppliers, Engineering, Quality, Operations, Finance, and Buyer/Planners to translate demand and BOM signals into an executable supply plan, proactively manage constraints, and drive continuous improvement. This role requires strong analytical skills to model demand/supply, optimize order strategies, and maintain healthy inventory (turns, service levels, excess/obsolete risk, working capital) while supporting on-time build schedules and customer commitments.
To be successful in this role, you'll need strong communication and cross-functional leadership to align stakeholders on commodity strategy, constraints, and trade-offs. You must be comfortable working with data (ERP outputs, supplier lead times, forecasts, consumption trends) to identify risks/opportunities and drive decisions that balance cost, cash, and availability. Knowledge of purchasing/materials management best practices, supplier management, and applicable regulations and safety measures is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own end-to-end procurement and supply plan execution for assigned electro-mechanical categories (raw material, machining, special processes, wire/cable, hardware), ensuring cost, availability, and quality objectives are met
- Translate build plans, forecasts, and BOM demand into material requirements; validate lead times, capacity, and constraints with suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Develop and maintain analytical demand/supply models (forecast vs. consumption, lead time variability, MOQ/MPQ, yield/scrap, capacity) to set reorder points, safety stock, and ordering strategies
- Monitor inventory health (turns, aging, excess & obsolete, shortages, past-due POs) and drive actions to optimize working capital while protecting production and customer commitments
- Own approved source strategy for the commodity: maintain AVL alignment, support supplier onboarding/qualification, and drive dual-sourcing where risk or capacity warrants
- Partner with Engineering/NPI to ensure material readiness for new products and ramps: long-lead coverage plans, FAI material readiness (as applicable), and smooth transitions through ECN/ECO changes
- Lead supplier performance management (OTD, lead time adherence, responsiveness, quality) and implement corrective actions, recovery plans, and escalation paths when needed
- Drive cost-reduction roadmaps (pricing negotiations, LTAs, should-cost, freight optimization) in partnership with Finance, Engineering, and Operations
- Manage special process supply chains to meet compliance and quality requirements: ensure suppliers can support required processes/specs, certifications, and inspection/traceability expectations
- Conduct supply risk assessments (single-source, capacity, quality, geopolitical/logistics) and build mitigation plans including alternates, buffers, and contingency strategies
- Create and publish KPI dashboards and weekly/monthly operating reviews for the commodity (PPV, inventory turns, shortages, past-due POs, supplier OTD, expedite spend)
- Support ERP/MRP effectiveness by maintaining planning parameters and master data accuracy (lead times, MOQ/MPQ, order policies); continuously improving planning signals and reporting
- Collaborate with Warehouse/Receiving and Quality on cycle counts, discrepancy resolution, and incoming inspection strategies to improve inventory accuracy and prevent line stoppages
COMPETENCIES
- MBA in operations, Supply chain or Bachelor’s degree with equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in procurement/materials planning/supply chain with commodity ownership; experience supporting electro-mechanical assemblies and job-shop/special process supply bases strongly preferred
- Strong analytical capability: advanced Excel (pivot tables, Power Query), ability to interpret ERP/MRP outputs, and build actionable inventory & supply plans
- Experience with dashboards/analytics tools (Power BI or similar) and KPI management (inventory turns, PPV, shortages, supplier OTD, expedite spend)
- Working knowledge of supplier qualification concepts (AVL/AML, onboarding, audits) and quality/compliance expectations for machining and special processes (certifications, traceability, inspection readiness)
- Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and suppliers; strong written and oral communication skills are a must
- ERP experience required (Epicor experience a plus); understanding of master data, planning parameters, and MRP logic
