DESCRIPTION

Amazon's E-reader team owns full stack device platform, Productivity offering built on GenAI, LLM, handwriting recognition etc and low-level components that make the device energy efficient with weeks of battery life. We recently launched Kindle Scribe, a larger form factor device that now unlocks reading as well as taking notes.

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer, you will own adding capabilities as we unlock more features on Kindle E-reader family. Our goal is to make it fast, easy and low-cost for our developers to build features.
You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon.
You should be comfortable with a level of depth as we solve deep operating system level problems!
You design and develop the critical components in the operating system as well as low-level components in E-reader that make the product a performant, secure and power optimized device. You also write applications on top of our unique Kindle Operating system.
Along the way you’ll learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.

You are proficient in C/C++ to understand internals of operating system in E-reader. If you know React Native, it will be a bonus as you can also write applications in E-reader.
Collaborate with experienced Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative components in E-reader
Architect and design a secure software that protects customer data stored on the devices.

A day in the life
In this role, you will be actively engaged in developing our operating system and writing applications that are based on C/C++ and react native. You will be contacted by many Amazonians as they deploy their software on E-reader. You will also be a lead engineer guiding junior members in this role.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
