Design Engineer – Mechanical (Electrical Panels)
Location: Guindy, Chennai

Working Days: 6 Days a Week (Monday – Saturday)

Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to design robust, compliant, and manufacturable enclosures and structural systems for LT, HT, Specialized, and Marine Electrical Panels. The candidate will be responsible for enclosure design, fabrication drawings, sheet metal engineering, thermal considerations, and coordination with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient manufacturing and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Design & Engineering
- Design panel enclosures and structural assemblies for floor-mounted, wall-mounted, outdoor, specialized, and marine electrical panels
- Prepare GA drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and detailed manufacturing documentation
- Develop sheet metal designs including busbar chambers, cable alleys, partitions, mounting arrangements, and compartment layouts
- Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and optimized for production efficiency
2. Technical Compliance & Engineering Calculations
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IS, and relevant marine classification standards
- Incorporate IP protection requirements, ventilation, heat dissipation, and thermal management considerations into designs
- Review customer specifications, technical requirements, and project standards
- Support structural and dimensional optimization for safety, reliability, and ease of maintenance
3. BOM & Documentation
- Prepare BOMs and fabrication material requirements
- Maintain design revisions, engineering records, and document control
- Generate technical documents required for manufacturing and project execution
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate closely with Electrical Design, Production, Procurement, QA/QC, and Project teams
- Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and inspection stages
- Support resolution of manufacturing and installation-related design issues
5. Customer & Project Support
- Implement design modifications based on customer comments, site requirements, or project changes
- Support FAT activities, inspections, and technical discussions with clients and consultants
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to design and manufacturing processes
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electrical panel enclosure design and sheet metal fabrication
- Hands-on experience in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and related design software
- Good understanding of fabrication processes, structural design, and manufacturing practices
- Knowledge of panel industry standards, IP protection requirements, and thermal considerations
- Ability to optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, and functionality
- Strong analytical, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
Experience
- 3–7 years of experience in LT/HT electrical panel enclosure and structural design
- Exposure to sheet metal design is compulsory and mandatory.
- Experience in the electrical panel manufacturing industry is not mandatory but would be an added advantage.
- Exposure to specialized or marine panel projects will be an added advantage
