Purpose of the Role
The ServiceNow Solution Architect is responsible for defining and governing the overall architecture of the ServiceNow platform, with a primary focus on CMDB, IT Asset Management (ITAM), IT Operations Management (ITOM), and Software Asset Management (SAM).
The role ensures that the platform supports business objectives through scalable, maintainable, and well-governed solutions, while maintaining alignment with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.
Scope of Responsibility
The role covers end-to-end ownership of solution architecture across the ServiceNow platform, including:
- CMDB design, governance, and data integrity
- ITOM capabilities (Discovery, Service Mapping, Event Management)
- ITAM and SAM lifecycle management
- Platform integrations and data flows
- Architectural governance and standards
- Alignment with enterprise architecture and IT strategy
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the ServiceNow architectural framework
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards
- Lead architecture design decisions across platform modules
- Establish and enforce design principles, standards, and best practices
- Design and govern the CMDB data model, including CI classes, relationships, and structure
- Define and implement data governance frameworks
- Ensure high levels of data quality (completeness, accuracy, consistency)
- Oversee implementation of automated population mechanisms (Discovery, integrations)
- Define architecture for ,Discovery and Service Mapping
- Support implementation of service dependency mapping and operational visibility
- Define architecture and processes for Hardware asset lifecycle (procurement to retirement) ,Software license management and compliance
- Ensure integration with procurement, finance, and vendor systems
- Drive optimization of asset utilization and cost management
- Define and govern integration patterns:API-based (REST/SOAP) ,MID Server architecture and IntegrationHub usage
- Ensure reliable and secure data exchange between ServiceNow and external systems
- Maintain consistency across upstream and downstream data sources
- Lead architecture reviews and design validations
- Ensure adherence to ServiceNow best practices and platform guidelines
- Define development and configuration standards
- Promote reuse and standardization across implementations
- Translate business requirements into end-to-end technical solutions
- Provide guidance and decision support on platform capabilities
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of CMDB and CSDM frameworks ITAM and ITOM modules
- Experience with Integration technologies (APIs, MID Server) and Monitoring and endpoint management tools
- Understanding of Cloud environments (Azure, AWS) and Enterprise systems (ERP, procurement tools)
- ServiceNow platform scripting (JavaScript)
Certifications
- ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
- ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (one or more relevant modules)
- ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (preferred)
- ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (advantage)
- ITIL Foundation (or equivalent)
