Job Title: Manager / Sr. Manager – Quality (Supplier Development)
Role Summary
Lead supplier quality development initiatives to ensure robust, compliant, and scalable supply chains. Drive quality excellence across fabrication suppliers with a strong focus on ASME-certified pressure vessels (including duplex stainless steel), welding, and manufacturing processes. Act as the key interface between engineering, sourcing, and suppliers to ensure zero-defect delivery and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Development & Localization
Drive localization of critical equipment, fabricated assemblies, and pressure vessels from global to regional suppliers
Qualify and develop suppliers for ASME Section VIII Div. 1/2 compliant pressure vessels, especially duplex and super duplex materials
Build supplier capability in welding, forming, machining, NDT, PWHT, and surface treatment processes
Support cost optimization through localization while maintaining global quality standards
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure supplier adherence to ASME codes, ASTM standards, PED (where applicable), and customer specifications
Review and approve supplier QAPs, WPS/PQR, WPQ, ITPs, and manufacturing procedures
Drive compliance to material traceability, PMI (Positive Material Identification), and heat treatment requirements for duplex steels
Monitor and improve supplier quality KPIs: defects, NCRs, COPQ, rework, and warranty performance
Fabrication & Welding Expertise
Provide technical guidance on fabrication of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems, and heavy structures
Ensure proper control of duplex stainless steel welding (heat input, interpass temp, ferrite control)
Oversee critical processes like fit-up, welding, NDT (RT/UT/PT/MT), hydrotesting, and final inspection
Support root cause analysis of fabrication-related failures and implement corrective/preventive actions
Supplier Qualification & Audits
Lead supplier audits: Technical, Quality, ASME, Sustainability, and Requalification audits
Assess supplier capabilities for U-stamp certification readiness and compliance
Drive audit closure actions and supplier maturity improvement plans
Develop strategic supplier base with long-term quality and delivery reliability
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
Identify early risks in supplier manufacturing and implement mitigation plans
Lead structured problem-solving using 8D, RCA, FMEA, Six Sigma tools
Drive zero-defect mindset and continuous improvement culture across suppliers
Support digitalization and standardization of supplier quality processes
Cross-functional Collaboration
Act as the quality interface between engineering, procurement, project management, and manufacturing teams
Support new product development (NPD)
Ensure alignment between design requirements and supplier manufacturing capabilities
Prevent late-stage escalations through proactive engagement
Documentation & Certification
Ensure proper documentation for ASME Data Books, MDRs (Manufacturing Data Records), and compliance dossiers
Review and approve inspection reports, NDT reports, and certification packages
Interface with third-party inspection agencies (TPIA), customers, and regulatory bodies
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
15+ years of experience in supplier quality, fabrication, or pressure vessel manufacturing
Strong expertise in ASME codes (Section VIII, Section IX) and pressure vessel compliance
Proven experience with duplex and super duplex stainless-steel fabrication and welding metallurgy
NDT Level II certification (ASNT or equivalent) with strong knowledge of RT, UT, PT, MT techniques and interpretation
Hands-on experience in review and approval of WPS, PQR, WPQ, ITPs, and NDT procedures
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) / CSWIP or equivalent certification (preferred)
Lead Auditor certification for ISO 9001 (preferred)
Exposure to PED, EN standards, or international codes is an added advantage
Key Skills
