Petrochemical Analyst, South Asia (India – Remote)
The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a Petrochemicals Analyst in India. This role will focus on the economic, financial and market aspects of the petrochemical industry in India and assist the team in accelerating a just transition from oil and gas in alignment with climate commitments, with an immediate freeze on the build-up of petrochemical infrastructure.
We are looking for an experienced economics and financial professional with sound knowledge of the petrochemical sector in India with preferred hands-on experience in financial analysis. They would be self-motivated, able to work independently, able to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines with limited direction while working remotely. They must also possess a commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy.
IEEFA is a rapidly-growing NGO/nonprofit that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets, trends and policies. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of 70+ analysts and communications personnel located in 15 countries across the globe. Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct research on the agrochemicals and textiles sectors within the petrochemical industry
- Conduct research on banks and financial mechanisms of the petrochemical industry
- Conduct horizon scanning for petrochemical industry developments by reviewing articles, annual reports, investor presentations, and industry publications related to the industry
- Prepare forecasts and analysis of trends in the Indian agrochemical and textile sectors within the petrochemical
- Collects economic data from established datasets and other sources, utilizing data collection and data science protocols
- Utilizes statistical analysis and mathematical methodologies to develop data
- Engage with relevant external stakeholders (e.g. regulators, banking institutions, investors, MDB’s) in India and abroad, and represent IEEFA at meetings
- Collaborate with team members and work independently to research and write original, compelling, and professional reports and commentaries on India’s petrochemical industry
- Drafting, formatting and proofing reports, submissions, press releases and presentations
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- 2-4 years’ experience in economics / finance including at least two years of experience related to the petrochemical industry (agrochemicals) of India
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, public policy
- Comprehensive experience analysing the industry growth’s impact on the economy, financial reporting, stocks, and investment portfolios
- Proficient understanding of finance, public policy and quantitative analysis.
- Understanding of policy and regulatory landscape in the petrochemical industry, with a focus on India
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through publications, reports, commentaries and liaising with regulators/ government stakeholders
- High degree of technological proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and demonstrated ability to learn new software and applications
- Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable economy
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience of ammonia and agrochemical sectors.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in a collaborative, team-based environment.
Compensation and Benefits
Full-time 12-month fixed-term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement and a market competitive remuneration. Pay rates are also based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity.
Work Schedule
Full-time, 5 days/week with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
Travel
Some travel is required. All team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and international team retreat.
Physical Demand and Work Environment.
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
