At NORDEN, we enable global trade by providing efficient and reliable freight solutions across the world. As we expand our project cargo and renewable energy goals, we are building out our engineering capabilities in Chennai, India, and this is where you come in.
We are looking for a Structural Engineer who is motivated to work at the intersection of transport engineering and heavy cargo operations. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring safe and efficient transportation of complex and oversized cargo, including windmill components, supporting projects that focus on the energy transition.
What is in it for you
Joining NORDEN means becoming part of a global organisation where we combine deep industry experience with a forward-looking mindset. You will step into a role where your engineering skills directly affect real-world operations, from feasibility stages to execution.
You will collaborate closely with naval architects, operations teams and external partners in an open and pragmatic environment where decisions are made quickly and ideas are welcomed. We value trust, feedback and collaboration, and you will have the opportunity to grow your engineering experience while contributing to meaningful projects within renewable energy and project cargo.
The task that awaits you
As a Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, analysing and verifying transport and lifting solutions for heavy and oversized cargo. Your work will ensure that complex operations are executed safely, efficiently and in line with industry standards.
Your main tasks will include:
-
Performing structural analysis and load spread calculations for heavy cargo transportation on vessels, barges and transport equipment.
-
Designing and reviewing grillage, sea fastening, lifting and supporting structures for project cargo operations.
-
Conducting finite element analysis (FEA) and structural verification studies in line with class requirements.
-
Preparing engineering reports, calculations, drawings and technical documentation for class and client approvals.
-
Coordinating with naval architects, operations teams, shipyards and external engineering consultants.
-
Supporting feasibility studies, method statements and risk assessments for transport projects.
-
Ensuring compliance with class rules, industry standards and project specifications.
-
Participating in technical reviews and contributing to continuous improvement of engineering standards.
What you bring
You are a structured and curious engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges and translating technical requirements into practical solutions. You thrive in a project-based environment where collaboration and ownership go hand in hand.
In addition, we imagine that you:
-
Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Marine Engineering.
-
Have 3–5 years of experience within structural engineering from offshore, marine, heavy-lift or project cargo environments.
-
Bring practical knowledge of structural steel design, load paths and transport engineering principles.
-
Have practical experience using FEA software such as ANSYS or comparable tools.
-
Are proficient in AutoCAD and familiar with 3D modelling tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks or equivalent.
-
Have a solid understanding of relevant standards such as DNV, ABS and IMO.
-
Communicate clearly in English and work well across teams and stakeholders.
