Job Summary:
- We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Ophthalmology Coding & Clinical Documentation Specialist with strong clinical and coding expertise in ophthalmology.
- The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in ophthalmic coding, diagnostic testing interpretation, payer policy compliance, and clinical documentation review to support accurate billing and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of eye anatomy and ophthalmic clinical workflows.
- Review and validate physical examination documentation and required elements.
- Accurately code E/M office visits (99202–99215) and ophthalmology visit codes (92002, 92012, 92004, 92014).
- Code ophthalmology office-based procedures including Avastin injections, Botox injections, SLT, PI procedures, and foreign body removal.
- Interpret and code ophthalmic diagnostic tests such as refraction, OCT, biometry, A-scan, and pachymetry.
- Apply appropriate ophthalmology diagnosis (ICD-10) codes in compliance with clinical documentation.
- Ensure adherence to payer-specific policies related to ophthalmology services.
- Review and validate contact lens (CL) fitting documentation, lens types, and payer policies related to CL coding.
- Ensure correct application of bundled and non-bundled procedures.
- Review ABN (Advance Beneficiary Notice) and DVM forms for completeness and compliance.
- Maintain accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality in all coding and documentation activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and clinical examination components.
- Proven hands-on experience in ophthalmology coding and documentation.
- In-depth understanding of US healthcare coding guidelines and payer policies (preferred).
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.
