The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in designing, analyzing, and optimizing electrical power systems for diverse projects, ensuring efficient and reliable power generation, transmission, and distribution. Expertise in power plant load flow, generator synchronization, switchgear and protection systems, and the ability to integrate diverse power sources, including DG sets and renewable energy technologies like BESS, is crucial. The engineer will also ensure compliance with international regulations and standards, implement energy-efficient strategies, and lead projects with effective cross-cultural communication and problem-solving skills.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Power System Design & Analysis
- Lead the design, development and integration of electrical power systems for stationary and auxiliary applications.
- Conduct Load study and comprehensive power system simulation studies, using CAD software like AutoCAD and Creo and simulation software like ETAP and EPLAN.
- Working knowledge of international standards (e.g., ANSI/NEMA, IEEE, IEC, NEC).
Analyze customer power system requirements and translate them into detailed technical specifications.
-
II. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Expertise
- Design and integration of utility-scale BESS into grid infrastructure.
- Select and specify BESS components (batteries, PCS, transformers, switchgear) considering international standards (UL, IEC, NEC, NFPA 855), capacity, efficiency, safety, and lifespan.
- Lead technical discussions and coordination with BESS suppliers, contractors, and internal teams during design, procurement, installation, and commissioning phases.
III. Electrical System Design & Switchgear Protection
- Possess a strong understanding of switchgear and protection systems, including the selection, design, coordination, and application of various types (e.g., low, medium, and high voltage).
- Design and deploy High Voltage (HV) switchgear assemblies, implementing best practices to reduce incidents related to high voltage supply.
- Perform detailed cable sizing calculations and panel sizing based on load requirements, fault levels, voltage drops, and protective device coordination, adhering to international codes and standards.
- Proficiently utilize CAD software such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, and Creo for creating, reviewing, and marking up electrical designs and documentation, adapting to international project standards and formats.
- Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and client discussions to present design concepts, address concerns, and secure necessary approvals.

a. HV switchboard and Battery Tripping Unit
b. LV switchboard and secondary distribution boards
c. Transformers
d. Uninterruptible power supply
e. Miscellaneous panels
6. Review supplier specific specifications vs produced specifications and provide comment /
mark up as required for edit.
7. Upon receipt of final equipment specifications, produce a block cable diagram identifying
all cables in/out of each item of equipment.
8. Carry out cable calculations to determine the size and specifications of each cable using
the following information:
a. Produced BESS schedules
b. SLD’s
c. Customer specifications / Clarke energy specifications
d. Relevant standards / wiring regs
e. Power system / fault studies
f. Layout including cable layout and containment type (buried, in duct, on tray etc.)
