Lead Software Engineer

We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer [Fullstack], where you will have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One.
The MLX team is at the forefront of how Capital One builds and deploys responsible GenAI and ML models; we onboard and educate associates on the GenAI and ML platforms and products that the whole company uses; we drive new innovation and research; and we’re working to seamlessly infuse Generative AI and ML into the fabric of the company. The AI experience we're creating is the foundation upon which our lines of business will continue to deliver next-generation machine learning-driven products and services for our customers.
What You’ll Do:

Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions in full-stack development tools and technologies

Direct a range of multifaceted tech initiatives, drawing on extensive expertise in full-stack architectures, distributed microservices, and the implementation of robust observability frameworks.

Partner with product and design teams to develop and integrate advanced features to the platform

Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community

Utilize various programming languages, Open Source technologies, Relational/NoSQL databases, Containers and a variety of AWS tools and services with a special focus on Serverless initiatives.

Debug issues across backend, frontend, middleware, infrastructure, databases and pipelines across all environments from local to production and across distributed systems

Quickly identify root cause, implement fix, and correct any affected data

Develop features to enhance the overall user experience with little to no direction, knowing what non functionals to address and how
Basic Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree
-
At least 10 years of experience in software engineering
-
At least 8 years of experience building back-end services (Including but not limited to: Java, JavaScript, Python, Go, Node, Scala, TypeScript, Spring Boot) (Internship experience does not apply)

At least 6 years of experience with a database technology (Including but not limited to: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB) (Internship experience does not apply)

At least 4 years of experience designing, building, and testing distributed systems along with comprehensive Observability (MELT) enabled (Internship experience does not apply)
-
At least 2 years of experience with a front-end language (Including but not limited to: JavaScript, TypeScript) (Internship experience does not apply)
-
At least 2 years of experience with a UI framework (Including but not limited to: Angular, Vue, React) (Internship experience does not apply)
-
At least 4 years of experience developing and deploying ML platform solutions on AWS
-
At least 2 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing strategic projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Agile or Kanban software development methodologies and Agile software development

8+ years of experience with a cloud computing provider (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud

8+ years of experience with a server side application framework (Django, Express, Spring)
-
3+ years of experience in MLOps either using open source tools like MLFlow or commercial tools

3+ years of experience building production-ready capabilities for large scale platform

Hands-on implementation of responsible AI, building solution for guard rails, model explainability, fairness and governance

Exposure to Generative AI application and familiarity with open source or commercial LLMs, and some experience in latest open source libraries such as LangChain, haystack and vector databases like open search, chroma and FAISS
