About HOMEDRAFT
HOMEDRAFT is building an AI-powered architecture and home-planning platform. Customers can submit their home requirements and receive an AI-generated concept floor plan, or upload an existing 2D floor plan and receive a realistic 3D visualization by email after verification and payment.
The product is live and serves real customers, so we are looking for someone who can write careful, maintainable code and understand the importance of reliability, privacy, security and regression-free releases.
Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated Full-Stack Software Engineering Intern to work closely with the founder and engineering team across the frontend, backend, database, AI integrations and production workflows.
You will contribute to customer-facing features such as:
- Multi-step floor-plan requirement forms
- Email OTP verification
- Razorpay payment checkout
- AI-generated concept floor plans
- 2D floor-plan to 3D render conversion
- PDF and PNG email delivery
- Admin request and customer management
- Background generation workers and job queues
This role is ideal for someone who wants practical experience building and maintaining a real AI product rather than only working on isolated demo projects.
Key Responsibilities
Frontend development
- Build responsive and accessible interfaces using React, Next.js and TypeScript.
- Develop multi-step forms with reliable validation and preserved form state.
- Implement customer flows for OTP verification, checkout, payment confirmation and delivery status.
- Ensure the website works well across desktop, tablet and mobile screens.
- Maintain consistent UI, typography, spacing, animation and accessibility standards.
- Avoid breaking the existing floor-plan and 3D-render customer journeys.
Backend development
- Build and maintain REST APIs using Node.js, Fastify and TypeScript.
- Add server-side validation using schemas such as Zod.
- Implement secure authentication, session handling, rate limiting and trusted-origin checks.
- Handle private file uploads and validate file type, size, content and structure.
- Work with PDF and image processing pipelines.
- Design reliable error handling for payments, uploads, AI requests and email delivery.
Database and Supabase
- Work with Supabase Postgres, Auth, Storage and Realtime.
- Create and maintain database functions, RPCs, indexes and constraints.
- Follow Row Level Security and backend-owned data access practices.
- Keep customer uploads, generated files and personal information private.
- Maintain compatibility with existing customer orders during feature updates.
AI and integrations
- Integrate OpenAI image-generation and image-editing APIs.
- Help improve prompts while preserving the customer’s submitted floor-plan structure.
- Ensure personally identifiable information is not unnecessarily sent to AI providers.
- Work with Razorpay payment APIs and webhooks.
- Work with Resend or similar transactional email services.
- Handle provider errors, retries, idempotency and duplicate-event protection.
Workers and production workflows
- Maintain background workers that process AI generation jobs.
- Understand queues, concurrency, retries, timeouts and job recovery.
- Ensure paid orders create exactly one generation job and one delivery.
- Prevent duplicate AI generations and duplicate customer emails.
- Monitor logs and troubleshoot issues across local, staging and production environments.
- Work with deployments hosted on platforms such as Railway and Vercel.
Testing and engineering quality
- Write and maintain unit, integration and API tests.
- Test both successful and failure scenarios.
- Run linting, typechecking, builds and dependency-security checks.
- Perform regression testing for existing 2D floor-plan and 3D-render services.
- Participate in code reviews and document important technical decisions.
- Follow the project’s branch workflow: feature branch → staging → production.
Required Qualifications
- Strong fundamentals in JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Practical experience with React.
- Familiarity with Next.js or another modern frontend framework.
- Understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive layouts and accessibility.
- Basic experience building Node.js APIs.
- Understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, JSON and asynchronous operations.
- Basic SQL and relational database knowledge.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
- Ability to debug problems independently and explain technical decisions clearly.
- Careful attitude toward customer data, payment information and production systems.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar tools and take ownership of assigned work.
Good to Have
- Experience with Next.js App Router and Tailwind CSS.
- Experience with Fastify, Express or similar Node.js frameworks.
- Experience with Supabase, PostgreSQL, Auth, Storage or Realtime.
- Familiarity with OpenAI APIs or other generative-AI APIs.
- Experience with payment gateways such as Razorpay or Stripe.
- Experience with transactional email services such as Resend.
- Understanding of webhooks, job queues, retries and idempotency.
- Familiarity with image and PDF processing tools such as Sharp, pdf-lib or Poppler.
- Experience deploying applications on Railway, Vercel or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with frontend animation and mobile-first UI design.
- Basic understanding of OWASP security practices and secret management.
- Interest in architecture, floor plans, interior design or Vastu is useful but not mandatory.
